Hi I'm Nate

I'm an American living in Ukraine, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I spent the majority of my childhood outside of my home country as my family lived in Russia and The Netherlands, moving back to the US my junior year of high school. I love to listen to, play, and write music and enjoy watching sports, especially college football and the Chicago Cubs. I am the second of five children. I did a year of college at BYU before I became a full time missionary in Kiev, Ukraine.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are LDS and I was raised in this church, but in high school I came to the realization that it was time for me to decide for myself whether or not I had a testimony of the gospel. As I studied the scriptures, pondered my church meetings, and prayed to know what was true, I felt a slow but steady confirmation as a new power entered my life - the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I became aware of a compassionate friend who has felt what I have felt, understands my pains and fears, and guides me with a perfect love. He has atoned for all the mistakes that I have made and all the mistakes I ever will make. He gives me my strength daily and helps me to continually improve myself, always with an outstretched hand as I stumble along the way. He is my Savior and my Redeemer. Jesus Christ is the hope that I look to and the peace that I can find in a turbulent world. I firmly believe that following the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are the best way for me to grow closer to Christ and find the happiness in life that we all seek.

How I live my faith

As a missionary, my job is to help other people have a better relationship with God. This involves serving and teaching the people around me in any way that I can. I teach from the scriptures and share my testimony so that the people. I serve can come closer to Christ and find peace and happiness.

What is Mormonism? OR What do Mormons believe?

Nate
The first thing that Mormons believe is in Jesus Christ. We believe that He is our Savior because He suffered for our sins in the Atonement. Through Him, we can right our wrongs and receive forgiveness of our sins. He led a perfect life which gives us a perfect example. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and I love Him and am forever grateful for His sacrifice on our behalf. One thing that does separate us from other Christian faiths is our belief in the Book of Mormon. We believe the Book of Mormon to be the holy word of God and a record of His people in the New World at the time of Christ's living. The Book of Mormon was translated by the power of God through the prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ and provides clarity to doctrines in the Bible that may be debated or lost in translation. Another commonly noticed difference between Mormons and other religions is what is called the Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom is a set of commandments from God given to Joseph Smith that we live by. It includes refraining from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, coffee, tea, and other potentially harmful substances. Our bodies are a gift from God and we want to treat them well. This is not all the Mormons believe, simply the key differences from other religions.
