Hi I'm Linda

I'm a wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. I've been a Mormon for more than 40 years.

About Me

I love to sing and my earliest memory of singing is "Jesus Loves Me". Then came "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" and "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus". My faith in Jesus Christ goes as far back as my memory, as natural as breathing or singing. I am married to my best friend, who grows dearer to me with every passing day. Our service in the Church and the covenants we have made deepens that relationship as well. I love the traditional homemaker pasttimes--cooking, sewing, knitting, home decor--just not housework. We raised our children in Vermont, where they are now raising their children (our 6 grandchildren). Relocating to Florida came 15 years ago when our aging parents needed us to be closer. They have all passed away but Florida has become our home. We love the warmer weather and the sunshine. I love having blooming trees and flowers around all year long. It is a beautiful, happy place to live. My first career choice was wife and mother, which I pursued exclusively for 15 years. Our son and I received Bachelor's degrees the same year. I went on to earn a Master's degree in Education and began teaching at 53 years old. I love helping, nurturing children, but it wears me out!

Why I am a Mormon

When missionaries taught us the gospel lessons, the information they brought made sense. There were eternal truths I had believed with every fiber of my being, that had not been taught in the church I attended with my family growing up. I knew that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost were 3 different people; I knew my life did not begin at birth, that there was something before that; the Father in Heaven that I knew would not arbitrarily assign good people to Hell because they had not received baptism. I knew these things to be true before I met with the missionaries, and I was thrilled to know there was a church that taught these things! But I resisted baptism; I had already been baptised as a baby. Wasn't that enough? Didn't God accept that baptism? As we attended church before joining we heard testimonies of others, most of them raised in other churches. They witnessed that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the only church on earth that taught all of Heavenly Father's true doctrine. Somehow, I knew it was true. The first time I bore my testimony after being baptised, I pledged to serve in any way I could, and asked for an opportunity to begin right away. I've never stopped serving and finding joy in that service.

How I live my faith

Service in the Church has taught me at least as much as I have learned in classes and by personal study. Primary, Relief Society and Young Women leadership and teaching have helped me incorporate gospel truths as I have taught and modeled them for others. My favorite calling has been Gospel Doctrine teacher, second favorite Seminary teacher. I guess I have always loved teaching, just didn't know I wanted to make a career of it! Teaching from the scriptures brings such a powerful spirit as I feel the Holy Ghost witnessing the meaning and the truthfulness of the words. Discussing those timeless truths with others has brought great blessings to my life. I have also learned valuable life skills like making an agenda and conducting a successful meeting for 5 or 100. Organizing events has become less daunting as I have followed the same steps needed in carrying out any assignment - make a plan, ask for help and advice, then follow the plan. An early assignment with the Young Women led me to organize a successful trip to visit Washington, D.C. - 4 days with 4 buses of teens, their parents and leaders. We visited the Smithsonian and walked the Mall. But the highlight of our trip was service in the Temple of the Lord there in Washington. I learned there to love the eternal truths taught in the temple.
