Hi I'm Shanna

I grew up near Seattle, Washington. I enjoy running barefoot, almost all sports, camping, and reading. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 21 and went to college for two years at Brigham Young University. I've finally decided that I will be studying architecture. I grew up with three older brothers, so I was a huge tomboy in elementary school. I look up to my brothers so much because of the people they are. I grew up playing soccer and have come to love other sports as well. Tennis and lacrosse have become my favorites. I'm a huge nerd when it comes to the Harry Potter books. Summer is my favorite season because I love spending time outside, whether it's in my hammock reading a book or exploring in a National Park or relaxing at the beach. I also enjoy playing around on the guitar and singing.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 15 my oldest brother, 22 at the time, told my family that he was gay. Anyone familiar with this Church knows that living a homosexual lifestyle is in contrary with the standards and beliefs of the Mormon Church. It was hard to know how to react because I had loved going to church and the friends that I gained in my ward, but at the same time my other two brothers stopped going to church and rejected their previous beliefs. How could I really know if what I was learning was true or if there even was a God. As I sat thinking about this I decided that to know if there was a God I needed to pray and if there was a God he would tell me if the church was true or not. As I prayed I put all my emotion into my words and I sincerely wanted to either receive no answer and remove myself from the Mormon Church or receive an answer and devote myself to the Mormon Church. I finished my prayer and sat there for a while and then I remembered learning in Sunday School that answers from prayers often come from reading the scriptures. I grabbed my scriptures and decided to open to a random page in the New Testament just in case the Book of Mormon wasn't true. I opened to Jude which consists of one chapter right before Revelations and started reading. I got to verse 20 and felt overwhelmed with love and truth. That verse reads "But ye beloved building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost," and continues in verse 21, "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life." No words had held more power for me in all my life. It's hard to describe what I felt as I read that other than overwhelming truth, but I committed myself to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at that moment and have had many other great experiences to add to my testimony that I know that this Church is true and I know that God, our Heavenly Father, loves me and you. I also know that he will answer your heartfelt prayers.

How I live my faith

I am currently a missionary for my church. I am dedicating 1 and a half hears of my life to helping more of God's children come to know the happiness that God is ready and willing to share with them. I am in Japan serving, loving, and teaching anyone I can about a God who loves them and wants them to feel closer to Him. I love what I do! I've never been so happy in my life!
