Hi I'm Fred Tan Wen Jie

I'm a swimmer and a sailor. I was an Inspector in the Police Force. But above all, I'm a Mormon! (:

About Me

I treasure the knowledge that through God, family's can be together forever even after death. I love to swim and sail. I do triathlons and biathlons. The discipline learned from sports is applied to other aspects of my life. I spent a short stint in the military before becoming a senior officer in the Police Force. There I served as an Inspector in the Police Force. I am now in London, England where I am serving as a full-time Missionary! After which, I will be furthering my education in college. I have a passion in Law and International Relations so that is probably what I will be doing.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I read the Book of Mormon, I prayed, and I know it is true. There is a remarkable overwhelming feeling that testifies of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and of God's existence. This feeling I cannot deny. It is a feeling that is hard to describe as well but one that has to be experienced personally. How we know that God is there is by talking, or praying, to Him. Some people say they think it's hypocritical to talk to someone if they do not know if He is really there. But the truth is, we won't know if he is really there UNLESS we try talking to Him. And when we do, we will realize that He is there, He answers prayers, and He loves us. We realise that we are truly part of a bigger picture. Life hasn't been easy. But the knowledge that there is a God who knows me, loves me, and watches over me provides a comfort and peace that cannot be described. I know that God lives. Because I know the Book of Mormon is true, I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet and that there are living Prophets today, just as there were in ancient times, evidence that God loves His children the same yesterday, today and forever. Because I know the Book of Mormon is true, I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His true and restored Church on earth today. This is why I am a Mormon

How I live my faith

Much about being a Christian is to try love as Christ loved. In my church, males holding the Priesthood (or authority from God) are typically entrusted with 2 specific families, to look after their temporal and spiritual needs. We visit them at least once a month, during which time we share with them a message from the Prophet among other things. Being a good Christian isn't just limited to what we do in Church though. It is about being a good citizen, a good person. Once a week, I help out in the grassroots level to do what I can to improve the lives of those who live around me. Because of my faith and the knowledge that I hold dear, I have decided to give 2 years of my life in voluntary missionary service to my God. I am now serving in the England London Mission where I will be sent to different areas to share how I have gained a faith and to help others to develop one too. To me, this is what it means to be a Mormon and a Christian. It is to love, and to serve.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Fred Tan Wen Jie
In all honesty, we live just like how anyone else would want to live! We want to be happy. But we recognize the means through which true happiness is and should be obtained. As such, we are mindful over the things that we consume, thus refraining from alcohol, tobacco etc. We want happy marriages! Thus we live clean and chaste lives and respect the sanctity of each individual. And we recognize that true happiness comes from an eternal reward and not temporary momentary enjoyment, thus we strive to live our lives in a Christ-like manner. Show more Show less
