Hi I'm Madeline

I am a painting student at BYU. Right now I am serving a mission in Budapest, Hungary.

About Me

I'm a painter interested in landscape, figures, and abstraction. My family heritage, like many Americans, is a mix of European ancestors and they come from England, Hungary, Sweden, and Germany. When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be a mermaid. I lived on the East Coast of America (primarily Maryland and Georgia) and I call that region of the United States home. I love green places, forests, and winter. I am interested in genealogy, in languages, film, music, and food. My two favorite places in the world are both gothic cathedrals--Canterbury Cathedral in England and St. John the Divine's Cathedral in New York. My dream is to one day do a field study in the Arctic. I like running, eating mexican food with my sisters, and reading by the fireplace with my siamese cat.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that the fullness of Jesus Christ's original and true gospel was restored in the Americas by Joseph Smith. I believe that we have all been given intuition and everyone deep down feels that they are immortal and that the things they do on this Earth do have meaning and I know that this church teaches those fully restored truths that Christ taught to the Jews and that the Jews spread to Europe long ago.

How I live my faith

The gospel is all about truth, which means it calls for truth and honesty in the way we live our lives on Earth. To me the most important thing about my faith is service. I move around a lot because I am a student, so each church ward I attend for a period of time gives me a new calling and new people to serve. My full-time mission in Hungary will last from January 2013-Summer 2014. In this time I am serving the Hungarian people by preaching the restored gospel of the Church of Jesu Christ of Latter-day Saints upon the Earth to those that will listen to the message I have. It is a privelege to return to the land of my ancestors and to have this opportunity to teach and learn from them. The scriptures are beautiful to me and I draw strength from their inspired words everyday, but I believe that consumption isnt enough and that our batteries run shorter than we think, we have to act on those ideals we believe in. Our Father in Heaven has created all things in the universe, both things to be acted upon and things to act. I believe that I and all human beings are the latter as long as they become conscious of this.
