Hi I'm Kelly

I have lived in Ohio, Texas, and Colorado. I'm an Archaeology major. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I really love to travel and am interested in history and culture. I'm in college and majoring in Anthropology with an emphasis on Archaeology. I am particularly interested in different religions and what drives people to have faith and believe in something. I lived in India for a semester and studied Hinduism. I have also studied Islam and Judaism, although not as in depth. I really love how different people appear to be but underneath it all, people are very similar.

Why I am a Mormon

My family is very strong in the church, but I didn't gain a testimony until I was older. I don't think anyone ever knew how little I really cared about the church because I always attended just to keep up appearances. However, some of the most dangerous and heartbreaking mistakes that people can make don't have to be made around people. I made a lot of poor decisions when I was on my own. I got to a point where I wondered if my life was worth living. I was in a really dark place when I got the opportunity to go to India to academically study Hinduism. Ironically, even though I was studying a different religion, that was where my testimony of this church started. I learned about the love of God there and I learned about how intricate and wonderful the Atonement is. I know that it was an act of purest love and it is the one thing that can give you hope when you feel like you're hopeless. When no one else believes in you, when even you don't believe in yourself, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will still be there and still be rooting for you. I know that if we are willing to ask for their help, they are more then willing to give it. I know that people can change and that even the changes you think will never happen, can happen with help from the Savior. He loves us and will never give up on us.

How I live my faith

I have had several different positions in church. I have been a part of the Service Committee, Visiting Teaching, and other teaching positions in the church, mainly as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher. I've played piano for almost seventeen years, so I often play for musical numbers and for hymns. I have just submitted my mission papers and will soon be a missionary for the Church for the next 18 months.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

As humans, we often make mistakes. Sometimes these are small and sometimes they are big. Returning from those sins and becoming better people can be daunting, but through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we are able to do it. The Atonement was when Christ suffered for our sins in Gethsemane. More then this, through the Atonement Christ was also able to go through all the things that we would encounter. In this way, he not only saves us from sin by allowing us to repent and regain peace, but he also understands and provides comfort and hope when we are going through our trials. Show more Show less
