Hi I'm Kelsie Godwin

I'm from California. I love my family, friends, and fun. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in the central valley of California. I moved to Los Angeles to attend college at UCLA and I majored in International Economics, with a focus on Germany. I lived in Germany for 10 weeks and it was an amazing experience. After college, I stayed in Los Angeles to work. I will be serving a mission in Tampa Florida, and going to law school after that.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church. My dad is not a member, but has attended some of the Sunday meetings and been involved in Boy Scouts since I was about 10. In my home, we were members of the church, but never really talked about Jesus Christ or the gospel. In high school, my mom was involved in the meetings and activities for young women, and I always attended those. So at that age, my testimony of the church came from the organization of it. I really appreciated the lessons and weekly activities we had as young women in the church and I knew that it was an important and uplifting way to spend my time. When I got to college in Los Angeles, I knew no one and it would be very easy to get lost. But I immediately went to church and the weekly activities and scripture study classes that were available for students at UCLA. I met so many wonderful people and was again so grateful for the organizations that the church has-that no matter where you go, there is always at least a room full of amazing people that share your standards and beliefs. Of course, being Mormon would be a huge commitment if my only reason was to have friends. As I study my scriptures and pray, and learn more about the gospel by attending church and classes during the week, I can feel in my heart that this is the right place to be, and it is the best place to be. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and wants me to be happy, and I am when I follow His Son's wonderful example.

How I live my faith

I think one of the most important ways I live my faith is by being an example of the way Christ would have us live and of his church. In college, I was in a sorority, where I was surrounded by amazing and inspiring women and given many opportunities for leadership and service, but I was also often in situations that are contrary to the teachings of the church. It became important to me to set an example to my friends and sorority sisters of the lifestyle of my church. I had many friends tell me that they really admired the fact that I enjoyed going out with them while maintaining my personal commitments to abstain from alcohol and other behaviors. They saw my commitment to my faith when I went to church every Sunday for three hours. I believe that by following this lifestyle and fully attending church and other activities as available, I come closer to Christ and show others the light that comes from following His example.
