Hi I'm Jonathan

I'm Scottish but grew up in Canada, I love service, Football and a good story, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live in Dumbarton, Scotland. Although I was born in Germany I spent 12 years living in Canada. I love being outdoors ie football and running. Hobbies also include fantasy/adventure books ie Harry Potter and Hunger Games. I was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on November 27th 2011. From then until now my life has been a spiritual roller coaster. I served my mission for the Lord in the England Birmingham Mission from 14th of February 2013 - 28th January 2015 and loved EVERY minute of it. I am attending university, I am the Young Mens President and love just being alive.

Why I am a Mormon

Originally, when I lived in Canada, some of my best friends were members of the church. However I did not accept the message or the gospel at this time. I did go to many young mens activities. These are weekly activities where as young men, ages 12-18, we get together and do either something sporty, some service work, or some talent/skill building. This allowed me to slightly gain a small knowledge of what the Gospel is. After moving to Scotland in November 2011, I allowed the missionaries to teach me. By reading and Praying, i gained a witness of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is True. I know it, and I live by it as best I can. The Gospel to me means a sure foundation for the future, and pathway to everlasting happiness. Although I know there are many trials and tribulations to come. I know where I can turn to, and what I can do, to get through it and not fall below the standard that Heavenly Father expects of me. I choose this path because I know it is True, and I know it is the only way to spend Eternity with my future wife. I love the full Gospel of Jesus Christ and pray that you can too.

How I live my faith

I was a Ward Missionary and a Counselor for most of the men in the Ward. As a Ward missionary I do everything I can to help the Missionaries in the Ward, through teaches and helping people in the community. As a Counselor I try to strengthen the Ward through service work and by guidance from the people in charge. I am also a Home Teacher, meaning that when people are baptised into the Church I go with a companion once or more a month and share a message, or perform an act of service for them, whatever is needed. I enjoy this because it helps to create a very united church, where we can trust and love one another. Mainly, currently, and more importantly, i am a full time serving missionary. As a disciple of Jesus Christ i share the message that He lives and that He has restored his Church to the earth today through a Prophet. Sharing this message invited the Holy Ghost into my life and those around me. This fills my life with Peace, Love, Joy, and Happiness wherever i go.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Jonathan
Originally when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was restored, there were several other Churches with similar names, like The Church of Christ or the Church of Jesus. We are called Mormons because it is a way to distinguish ourselves from these other Churches. It came about from the fact that we believe both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Therefore, as it is the knowledge of both sets of Scripture, it is the easiest was to distinguish us from other Churches. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Jonathan
As for Church, we wear clothes that are modest. I always think, 'would Heavenly Father approve with what I am wearing?' I wear a suit, although when hot I would not wear the jacket. The women in the ward wear dress' or skirts that reach below the knees and cover the shoulders. We celebrate Christmas and Easter much like most of the world. However we focus on the true meaning. Like the Birth of Jesus Christ and the suffering, death, and resurrection that he went through. We live our lives in a way that Heavenly Father would be proud of us, always trying to uphold the highest of moral standards. That is the moral standards of God, and not the moral standards of the world. Show more Show less
