Hi I'm Matt

I'm a lover of the outdoors, a falconer, scuba diver, trapper, and a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Matt I am 21 years old and just about to head out to college in about a week. I enjoy anything that has to do with the outdoors, I love camping, backpacking, hiking, rock-climbing, spear fishing. I am a licensed falconer and scuba diver. I absolutely love being active and can't stand being cooped up inside all day long.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a family that shares my faith, I grew up going to church every Sunday, reading out of the scriptures, and participating in church activities, my whole childhood I never once questioned my beliefs, I just believed what my parents and leaders had told me about the church. I believed it was true because of what they had told me. Their came a day though that I realized that I needed to come to that conclusion on my own and not take anybody else's word for it, I realized that if I was going to live my faith I had better come to know for myself that those things I had been taught were true. I remember that at that time I did a lot of praying asking god if this truly was where he wanted me and if this truly was his church, as well I did a lot of scripture reading especially in the book of Mormon another holy book of scripture we use in our church. I remember in that time and many times afterwards I received answers to my prayers, the answers weren't huge manifestations from god, I didn't see angels or hear a voice telling me that this was gods church but I truly felt something I had never felt before, I felt an overwhelming feeling of peace come over me and I had no doubt whatsoever that I was in the right place. some might say that those were just feelings and not an answer from god but I truly know that they were an answer from him. Many times after that I have received many other answers from him letting me know that I truly am in the right place.

How I live my faith

I imagine that for some people the church may just be a Sunday thing or maybe a holiday thing, but for me my beliefs about god shape how I live my life, every decision I make I try to think and feel if its what god would want me to do. I do my best to serve others and be a good example everywhere I go. Christ said we need to be a light for the world and to me that means that I need to live my life in such a way that others when they see me they will know that I truly believe in god and I follow his teachings. As members of the LDS faith our beliefs about god truly is a way of life. All of us in our faith have the opportunity to help and teach each other, in our Sunday services we don't just have one person that talks and teaches the whole time, we rotate preparing and giving talks in those meetings. As well we all have something that is called a calling, a calling is an assignment to be for example a leader of a group of people or a teacher of a class, there are many different callings and almost all of the members have one. I have the assignment of being a class teacher of a group of kids, its a great opportunity that I enjoy very much. I have the opportunity to prepare and teach the class.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

We as members of our faith believe that our bodies are gifts from god, he expects us to take good care of that gift, for that reason we watch what we put into it, and what we do with it. We try to keep it clean, by being active and doing sports, eating fruits and vegetables, and staying away from harmful substances such as illegal drugs, tobacco, Alcohol, coffee and tea. We believe that as we do this our bodies and our minds will be kept healthy and strong Show more Show less
