Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in New Hampshire, and now live in Idaho. I'm a retired Corrections Officer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired Corrections Officer - I worked in a prison for adult offenders. I'm married, and have 3 sons, and 3 grandsons. I am a martial artist; I practice a Russian system called ROSS. I am an online student at one of the Church universities. I recently moved to Idaho; it's a beautiful area, just a couple hours drive from Yellowstone National Park. I'm not a very good fisherman, but there is good trout fishing here.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up not having any religion. My father was a Catholic, but didn't go to church, except for funerals. My mother is an atheist. In my 20's I looked at many different faiths, but didn't see any that I wanted to practice. When I started working at the prison, I met my good friend Dan, who was a Mormon. I visited his home, and learned a few things about Mormons. I was struck by how happy his home was. My home was very different. My first wife and I argued all the time. When my marriage ended, I stayed with him and his family for a couple of weeks until I could find an apartment. I got to know the family well. They read the scriptures and prayed as a family. There was a spirit in that home I'd never felt before. I met my future wife through them. She is a Mormon too. She had that same spirit around her too. I met with the missionaries and was given a Book of Mormon. I read almost half the book before I met up with them again! They asked me to pray to God, to find out for myself. I felt in my heart that the Book of Mormon was true, and had been translated by Joseph Smith, through the power from the Lord, from an ancient record just as it said it was. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ for 17 years now, and I know that I want to be a member of the Church all my life.

How I live my faith

I serve as a 1st Counselor in the Bishopric. The Bishop is the leader of a local congregation, what we call a ward. I, and another man who is the 2nd Counselor, help the Bishop. We are his assistants. I love doing what I've been called to do! Our church is different from many others, because we don't have a paid clergy. Our Bishop, and all of us who are called to serve in our ward are all volunteers. I serve because I love the Lord, and want to teach, serve and love like He did.
