Hi I'm Kate

I'm a singer songwriter, loving aunt and missionary called to serve in the China Hong Kong Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After a few years of performing, I stopped writing music, going to school and other endeavors to serve my mission in Hong Kong for 18 months. It was the best time of my life thus far! I loved learning Cantonese, and serving the people around me. When I came home I was excited to continue school and be with my family. I didn't now that the first year home would be the most challenging of my life. I started school one week after I flew home from China, it was busy and stressful. I found that I didn't have as much time to write music, or spend as much time with my family or friends. Two months later my mom was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. She endured 8 months of chemo and is now a survivor! It was a miracle and amazing to watch her overcome this trial. My family has been hit with many difficulties over the past months and I am grateful because it brought us closer together, and I was able to spend time with them. I was also able to meet the man of my dreams and we will be married next spring. He has been a great support through all these hard times. On the one year anniversary of my coming home from my mission I will be flying back to China to study mandarin Chinese for four months. Then I get to plan my wedding and be sealed to my eternal companion for eternity!

Why I am a Mormon

It's easy to say I am a member of the church because I was born into a Mormon family. As I grew up I began making my own choices and discovered a testimony for myself. I read the entire Book of Mormon for the first time when I was a teenager. I knelt in prayer and asked God if this book was true. The warmth of the spirit filled my entire being. I knew it was true. I could not and will not deny what I felt. I look back on that experience and that, along with other experiences, is what keeps me going. I know that Jesus Christ lived and died for us. He atoned for the sins of all mankind. I know that God brought about the restored gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith. This is why I am serving a mission and this is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

This year, I've learned what it means to live my faith even when I face difficulty. As a missionary I was constantly sharing what I believe, serving and felt a sense of purpose. Coming home and going back to normal life, I lost sense of purpose. I felt distanced from God. When my mom was diagnosed with cancer my world was shaken. My perspective changed because I realized what was really important to me: my family and my faith in Jesus Christ. I started to find more opportunities to serve my family and other people around me. I worked hard in school and did well at my job. I began to close the distance between me and my Heavenly Father. I live my faith through prayer, studying the scriptures, and serving others. Although I am not perfect I strive every day to be a little bit better.
