Hi I'm Jake Parry

I backpack. I am an engineer. I believe that social enterprise is the answer to our fallen world's problems. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

One of my biggest priorities in life is building relationships with others. Most of what I do can funnel through my goal of learning from others and serving them. I believe that everyone has a unique mission in life and I love to learn about those missions. I experience great joy through my relationships with friends, family, and someone I meet with for a day. I am studying chemical engineering. Unlike many engineers, I am very extroverted and I want to build and sell businesses. I am a social entrepreneur. I co-founded and built a startup company for wheelchair users; it is an app that opens doors hands-free for wheelchair users. Go ahead and ride around in a wheelchair for one day and try to press those buttons and you'll prove to yourself that they don't solve the door problem very well. We solved it better.

Why I am a Mormon

"When God speaks and a man obeys, man will always be right." I read the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. I asked my Father in Heaven if it was true with the following purposes in mind: 1. Real intent. This meant that I was ready to act on the answer He would give me. 2. Faith in Christ. This meant that I believed God loved me enough that He would reach out to me. 3. Sincere heart. This meant that I was open to any answer being the right one. This took humility. I had an unmistakable feeling in my mind that what I had just read was from God. Ever since then, I have continued to read the book and my feelings of its truth have only grown stronger over the years. I am a Mormon because I asked God about the path and He spoke to my heart that this was His path. My challenge to all is to ask God with real intent, having Faith in Christ, and real intent to know the answers to their humble questions. Our God is one who still speaks with and listens to His children. Why would a loving Father be any different? "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round."

How I live my faith

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." -Jesus Christ (John 15:10-14) Joy comes through following Christ's teachings. God put us on earth to help build His Kingdom and to be happy. I strive to show Him that I care by growing close to all His children. I want to be considered a friend of the Lord's so I express that desire through building a relationship with Him. My challenge is to draw close to everyone that surrounds me. It is my hope that the way in which I treat others exemplifies how and why I live my faith.

What is the priesthood?

Jake Parry
The Priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name. It is given to all worthy, male members of the church who are of age (12). This was taken off the earth when the Savior and His apostles died and has been restored through the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Through the Priesthood, those in the Church who have it can perform the ordinances of the church (baptism etc.), lead congregations of the Church, and bless the sick. I am thankful to have the Priesthood in my own life and in my home. I strive every day to lead a clean, and worthy life so that I am readily available to bless others through my Priesthood. What is the Law of Chastity?

Jake Parry
God has given us the sacrad gift of procreation. We have been commanded to keep sexual relationships within the boundaries of marriage. We show our willingness to obey the commandments, our respect for God's special gift, and our love for our spouse when we keep the Law of Chastity. We are blessed by keeping the Law of Chastity. God promises security, happiness, and virtue to all who do. I know that keeping the Law of Chastity will bring genuine joy in this life and lasting happiness in the life to come. I am grateful for the gift God has given us to bring children into the world into a loving family. I also know that we can receive forgiveness for any sexual sins. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can be forgiven of any sexual transgression and return back to the path to living with our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
