Hi I'm Reece

I grew up in a small town in northern Idaho with my parents and 5 younger siblings

About Me

I am a Junior at my University and have been guilty of spending all my time either studying or working at library security. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so doing well in school is very important to me. When I am not in school, I love to spend time with my younger siblings jumping on the trampoline or having water balloon fights. My father builds is a construction worker, and he has built every home I have lived in, so there are always lots of opportunities to give him a helping hand. I personally enjoy exercising, I volunteer a few times a week to at my university gym as a fitness instructor. It makes me feel really good to help people improve their lifestyles. I also love to ride my mountain bike and go hiking. I have many good friends, and I enjoy going to movies with them, out to dinner or just playing games.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because my Heavenly Father has answered my prayer about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Through knowing the Book of Mormon is true, I know that Joseph Smith was an instrument in the hands of Heavenly Father to bring the fullness of his gospel back into existence. I was raised as a Mormon, so it was of course easy for me to choose this faith. However I have not just continued in the faith because I was raised in it, but I have read the Book of Mormon and prayed about myself. I accepted the challenge found in Moroni 10:3-5 to read, ponder and then "ask with a sincere heart" if it is true. I received my answer through the Holy Ghost which came as an incredible warmth and peace. As I live the gospel of Jesus Christ I can feel these same feelings everyday.

How I live my faith

I do little things to live my faith each day, in addition to attending church each Sunday. I have set a goal to read something from the Book of Mormon or the Bible each day. I have seen how this has blessed my life. I feel the love of my Savior Jesus Christ and greater abundance, and it helps to give me strength against inappropriate thoughts or actions. I begin and end each day with a personal prayer to my Heavenly Father, to thank him for my health, my family, and to ask for a special blessing or an answer to prayer. I try to make it point to pray throughout each day whether it be finding a quite place to sit and pray or just in my mind. This helps me feel greater peace and recommit to following the example of my Savior. I have been given a calling which I perform each Sunday; it is to instruct a group of young men refereed to as Elders Quorum. I prepare a lesson each each on an assigned topic, might be about families, or even spiritual and physical preparedness. I then stand before the group and share what I have learned through my own study and preparation. My goal when teach is help each individual become closer to their Savior, I encourage the group to share personal insights and feelings. It is a very rewarding calling. I think that most important thing that I do, is just to pray daily. I need to feel close to my Savior, and I can feel close to him through sincere prayer.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Jesus Christ taught that Baptism is essential for a man or women to be saved. I have been baptized, this has allowed to be cleansed from my sins and be saved, so long as I live the gospel of Jesus Christ. My decision to be baptized is one of the greatest decisions I have made, I enjoy the peace that comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ everyday. I want to extend that blessing to the people who have lived before me. Many people have never heard of Jesus Christ, or had the opportunity to be baptized by his authority, which is the priesthood. By participating in proxy baptism, I am affording these people the opportunity to use their freedom of choice to enjoy the blessings I enjoy now. Show more Show less
