Hi I'm Brian Stiles

I love anything to do with sports and with the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love playing basketball. I played since the third grade and was able to play for my high school varsity team. I love spending time outdoors. Some of my best childhood memories are going on camping trips with my family and backpacking with my dad, brother, uncles, cousins, and friends. One of my favorite hobbies is photography. I particularly like shooting landscape and wildlife. I have spent the last four months completing a semester of college in Provo at Brigham Young University. I loved it up there especially meeting new people and going to the sporting events. I am taking a two year break to serve a mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church. My dad has been a member his entire life and my mom was converted at the age of 23. I have great parents who have always taught me the importance of choosing the right and always attending church. So most of the gospel principles really became habits of mine and something that my family just did. It wasn't until high school really that I decided that I needed to find out if the church was true. I knew that I had the decision of a mission in my future and I did not want to spend two years of my life on something that I didn't believe in. I decided to start building my own testimony by reading the Book of Mormon. I read it cover to cover and prayed about it's truthfulness. I had a strong impression that it really is the word of God. Every time I read it I feel great inside. I knew that if the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith had to be a prophet of God. Once I gained this knowledge for myself, I really couldn't turn away. I owe it to my Savior to try to live the principles of the gospel and do the best I can. I always need to strive to be a better person. This is the main reason why I decided to serve a mission. First, it is what Jesus Christ wants me to do. I owe him absolutely everything because of His sacrifice during the Atonement so two years really isn't that much. The other reason would be because the gospel brings me and my family joy and happiness. I want other people to be able to share this happiness and know the love and plan that the Savior has for us.

How I live my faith

I have grown up in the church and have been pretty involved throughout my life. I spent my youth going to church and mutual activities while serving in multiple presidencies with a variety of positions. My last calling was actually at my student ward up at BYU. I had the opportunity to serve as the Elder's Quorum President. I was pretty shocked at this calling because it was only two weeks before that I had received the Melchizedek Priesthood. I tried my best though and received a lot of help from the Bishopric and High Counsel members. I participated in home teaching along with many other visits to quorum members. At BYU, we have the great opportunity to take religion classes. This last semester I was able to take the first part of the Book of Mormon which overs through Alma 29. Also, during high school, I was able to attend seminary. This was a great experience especially since my high school allowed us to have release time during the day so we didn't have to go to early morning seminary! My senior year I participated in our seminary council which was a calling from the stake.
