Hi I'm Mandy

I'm from Utah. I'm a student. I'm a friend. I'm a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am attending Brigham Young University. I am a sister to five siblings and am the second oldest in my family. I grew up playing every sport. My favorites were softball, basketball, and volleyball. I also played on my high school golf team (but wasn't very good!)... I love to play music and sing. I have played the cello for a few years now. It's great to be caught up in music. Music makes me so happy. I love talking to and meeting new people and was involved in student government in high school. My favorite thing to do is to be in nature with my family, hiking and playing outside. I am currently preparing to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have been called to serve the people in Rancagua, Chile.

Why I am a Mormon

Living the gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me to open my eyes. The Mormon doctrine has given me an eternal perspective and made things in life less trivial. In my life, I have had countless experiences that testify to me that God does exist, He loves me and everyone, and He is desirous that we should come unto him. A blessing that this gospel brings to me is that we will be able to be with our families forever. Although there are times my family can drive me crazy, this structure is more important in my life than any other. Losing my grandfather, and other members of my family, this knowledge is beyond priceless to me. Other aspects of the doctrines of the church have touched my life immensely. The atonement and repentance have made my life more meaningful. When I make mistakes, I can get rid of my guilt and become whole again. Christ's redeeming sacrifice has kept my life whole. I am a Mormon because I believe in the power of the atonement, and other gifts, like the holy ghost. I know that this peace of mind comes from living the gospel, because in no other way in my life have I felt as much joy. I am a Mormon because I believe the Book of Mormon is the easiest and most complete way to come unto Christ. The Book not only contains principles that make life more productive, but is also comforting and fulfilling. A few times when reading the Book of Mormon I have been sure that this book was written for no one but me. My selfish desires believe that God has loved me enough to give me a book full of his commandments and principles, but I know that the book was created for all men. I am a Mormon because I believe that the gospel has been restored in the Latter-Days and that Heavenly Father does still communicate to his holy Prophets. I am a Mormon because I have faith in the gospel and it's doctrines. I am a Mormon because of the complete happiness the gospel brings me.

How I live my faith

I have always loved to serve people. At college I make friends by offering my car to drive people places. Being a taxi service brings me closer to friends and serving them allows me to feel my Heavenly Father's love for them. I have been given service opportunities in my church as a leader over girls my age, or younger. As a daughter of God, I have been taught the importance of motherhood as I babysit children and learn important home-making skills. I live my faith by worshiping in the church, in temples, and in nature. Preparing for a mission, I've discovered that the gospel comes natural. It's an everyday thing that increases our happiness. I live my faith by striving to become the best I can. I know this is impossible for me, but through the Savior, Jesus Christ, my life continues to improve despite all opposition.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Often, when people describe something they know to be true to others, others will say "Prove it!" To me, the book of Mormon is a book that "proves" that Christ really lived, and discusses His ministry. It is comparable to other doctrine, like the Old and New Testaments. Just as we have a record of these ancient people, the Book of Mormon is a Book that is the writings on the people who lived on the american continent. Similar to Moses and Abraham in the Bible, Lehi is a prophet in the book of Mormon who travels with his family across the sea. The book describes their posterity in the Americas. The book tells of Christ's resurrection and teachings in america, as well as other prophesies for the last days similar to the Bible. The book of Mormon was abridged-all different accounts collected and compiled into one book by an ancient prophet Mormon. At the end of the book of Mormon, after the book has been compiled by Mormon, Mormon's son, Moroni gives his great promise that those who read the Book of Mormon and sincerely pray about it can know by the Holy Ghost that it is true.
