Hi I'm Charles Pope

I grew up in Utah. I played Lacrosse for 7 years. I am serving in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am 20 years old. I am out going and very friendly. I played lacrosse in high school and I really love the sport. I don't like to be forced to do things I do not want to do. I am serving a mission in South Dakota. I stopped going to Church when I was young then started going back to Church when I was 16, almost 17. Once I started to go back to Church, I realized what was missing in my life. I knew that I had a lot more on my shoulders than I realized. All of the years that I didn't really use the gift my Savior gave to all of us when he suffered for us, I knew that I needed to go back. For 2 years I went to Church alone, then when I received my mission call, my parents started to go back to church. I am very optimistic. If I am down, I will do what ever it takes to make someone else happy and seeing their joy will make me happy. I love this gospel and the joy it brings to me and, more importantly, my family. My goal as a missionary is to give them the opportunity to learn of the restored gospel and the ability to learn for themselves.

Why I am a Mormon

As stated before, I did not attend church for several years. I didn't want to do much with the church, I had other things I could do other than doing church things. My family was less active also, so I was not forced to go. When I was 16, I started going due to the fact that I wanted to server a Mission. Once I started going, people noticed the personality change that had occurred. I was a happier person, my parents still did not want to go to church, so I would attend by myself. Only then when I started to fill out the paper work for my mission my parents started to go, but before then; they felt the blessings that were coming from me and doing the things which I knew was right. I know this Church is the only Church that has the fullness of the gospel of Christ. The blessings that come from the gospel will surpass all other feelings. I am very grateful of the Lords sacrifice. I know that if you are going through a hard time and you don't know what you should do, if you ask God The Father in the name of his Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, for help; he will help you, but be patient. I know Joseph Smith translated The Book of Mormon and The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I would not be the same person I am today, if I was not in this Church. I leave that with you in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

There was an older lady in our ward. She could not attend Church due to an oxygen tank and being hard of hearing. Every Sunday, a group of 16 and 17 year-old boys would go to her house and give her the sacrament and also sing to her some hymns. Her family felt the blessings that came from us doing that every week. Having the heart of charity is a great way to turn a bad day to the best day ever. I live my faith by following Jesus Christ. Following meaning that I strive to be perfect as He is, but we all know that we have a natural inclination to go against that. The best way I found how to be like the Savior is by studying His word: The Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. Also, by hearkening to His called and ordained Prophet and Apostles. I am also living my faith by doing the thing that the Apostles did in the past, that is by serving a Full-time mission. I go out all day everyday, for 2 years, and teach people about this glorious gospel that our Heavenly Father saw fit for us to have.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Charles Pope
Every person here on this earth has the ability to choose for themselves. The best way to know if Mormonism is true is by searching for it yourself. That is how I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. There are ways to know if it is true as you search: Read and Pray about if the Book of Mormon is true; listen to your heart or your feelings, such as if you feel joy or happiness, then that is the Spirit telling you it is true; and lastly, you need that desire to know. Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Charles Pope
Baptism is one of God's commandments, however, many people have died without the opportunity to obtain baptism. Baptism can only be done on earth, so those people cannot be baptized. But Heavenly Father has shown his love for all of his children by allowing us to do proxy baptisms. We can do these things for those who have passed on and that have not been baptized. Those that have passed on still have their agency and still have the "same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world." (see Alma 34:34) They who have been baptized in by proxy can choose to accept it or decline that baptism. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Charles Pope
The opportunity to help God's children is a service and not a job. People get paid for jobs and with us we know that it is the love they have for us that they are will to take that position. I am grateful to know that my funds support the church overall growth instead of someone want to teach. As a missionary, I don't get paid for what I do, but I do what I do because I love the people and not because of payment. Not to say all people who get paid for being a clergy are greedy, but it definitely shows who you are when you render service to the people. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Charles Pope
There is not just one author of the Book of Mormon. It starts with a small group that was led by a prophet named Lehi in 600 B.C.. They left Jerusalem and went to the American Continent. Here is where the history of the Book of Mormon transpires. The Book of Mormon is comparable to the Bible in the same likeness and manner of that it is a compilation of records of ancient prophets. The Book of Mormon is another Testament of Jesus Christ and contains the fulness of the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ! If you want to know this is true, obtain a Book of Mormon and read Moroni 10:3-5 and test it for yourself what it says in there. That scripture is a promise and a guarantee that you will gain a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
