Hi I'm Billie

I'm a Russian speaking, sports loving, guitar learning, stress baking, accounting student. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am from a little oil town in North Dakota. I love learning, volleyball, and just spending some quality play time with my 7 soon to be 8 nieces and nephews. I'm a student at BYU-Idaho aspiring to someday be an accountant. I love to learn and try to always be working a new skill or hobby. I've learned Russian from serving an LDS mission in the Russia, Moscow Mission and am currently working on playing the guitar. Yes, I do bake when I need to relax and destress, sometimes in the middle of the day and sometimes at 3 in the morning. I believe in finding joy and seeking out the good things in life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I know this gospel is true. There is absolutely no question in my mind that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and knows me personally. Being a Mormon gives my life direction and purpose in the most extraordinary and beautiful way. I am a Mormon because it rids me of doubts and fears and replaces them with light and knowledge.

How I live my faith

I think faith is something that should be evident by the way we live. I would hope that people could look at me and my habits and know that faith is very important to me. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there are plenty of meetings and activities that take time. While church is something I enjoy very much, I think that how you live when you're not at church is just as important as going to church in the first place. I am in no way perfect, but I try my best to be kind to others and to look at life with an eternal perspective. I work really hard to remember that everybody around me is a son or daughter of Heavenly Father and to treat them accordingly... even though sometimes that can be difficult. I'm a big believer in simple things. Reading scriptures and praying daily, although little things, make all the difference for me. Somehow, by doing those simple things, the harder things become easier and I do a better job at remembering that I am a daughter of God. Living my faith helps me have purpose in my life and that purpose makes me extremely happy.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Not all members of the church are required to serve missions. One of the purposes of the gospel is to invite everyone to come unto Christ. It is not a part of Heavenly Father's plan to leave any of his children in the dark about his truth. Worthy, single, and able young men are called to do so after they graduate or are able to go because it is a Priesthood responsibility. Women may serve if they desire but their first responsibility is to be wives and mothers. Older couples may serve as well after retirement. Missionary work is the Lord's work. They are not paid, it is considered an honor and privledge to sacrifice 18 months (or 2 years for men) to devote all their talents and effort to invite all of God's children to learn about the gospel and have the chance to return to Him. How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Heavenly Father is just that, a father. He wants us to get to know Him and wants us to feel close to Him. Just like any other relationship, this doesn't happen without work on both sides. The good thing is that Heavenly Father is always there waiting for us to turn to Him. Some things that have helped me get to know my Heavenly Father is being very sincere in my prayers. I tell Him the deepest feelings of my heart, my concerns, my joys. As I have repeatedly done this, I have felt the love of my Heavenly Father and felt His concern for me personally. I know that just like any other relationship, if we will just take the time to open up our hearts to Him, He will in turn open His loving arms to us. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Simple. Our faith in Jesus Christ increases as our knowledge of Him does. As we pray, study the scriptures, keep the commandments, and follow Christ's example, Our ability to know Christ increases as does our desire to know more. For me personally, I read the Book of Mormon. There are many examples of people who believed strongly in Christ even though they had never seen Him. They, like myself, had to rely on prayer and study to come to know their Savior. I feel the Holy Ghost as I read and I am able to apply the stories to my own life. Show more Show less
