Hi I'm Susan

Hi, I grew up in East London. I am a mother of 4, married to Peter and currently live in Devon.

About Me

Hi, I am Susan. Married to Peter with 3 daughters and a son. I work in a local supermarket and enjoy interacting with the customers who shop there. I like to go walking with friends and family. Particularly by the river and ocean which are 10 minutes from my home. Listening to all kinds of music is one of my favourite relaxing activities. The piano is the instrument I prefer and it is an ongoing learning experience for me.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother always taught me to help someone if I could, share my things or abilities to help the individual on their way. This has stayed with me throughout my life. I grew up attending childrens sunday school and the stories of Jesus and His interactions with people were my favourite stories. Auntie's of mine with faith would take me to church with them. Where I enjoyed learning and singing the hymns. However, growing into a typical teenager and young adult, I followed the crowd and lived for the day! Over time I felt an uneasiness in my lifestyle and often wondered about the purpose of my life and what would happen to me after I died. When I would talk to family or friends their was no satisfying conclusion to these questions. In my middle 20's I visited the Hyde Park Chapel Visitors Centre in London. Here I learned from visual displays and from conversing with missionaries about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its teachings. One picture depicting the organisation of this church struck me. Jesus Christ was at its head with 12 Apostles.I remembered from the Bible learning about The Saviour calling men to be His Apostles. This brought a sense of comfort to me. Over a period of time I studied with the missionaries and as I prayed to know for myself the truth of their message. I realised that there is a purpose to life. I am on a journey of faith. To learn and understand that I am a daughter with a Father in Heaven. Who sent His only Begotten son to earth to show and teach us the way to journey back to our Heavenly Father. My faith is centred on Jesus Christ in His teachings. Through loving God and my neighbour and each day adjusting my actions and words, so that I become more like The Saviour. I feel contentment and happiness.

How I live my faith

My husband and I support a local charity which helps young people who find themselves homeless. We host individuals in our home by giving them a place to stay for 1 or 2 nights as needed. This helps provide a brief respite from the uncertainty of their current situation. It gives us an opportunity to look outward and give love to a person in need. We find as we use our resources of time and our home. Our own concerns in life are put into a better perspective and we can make better choices. Its like that old saying that 'our burdens become lighter'. We like to share our comforts because who knows when we may find ourselves in a similar situation.
