Hi I'm Ray Nelson

I am extremely obnoxious, a car lover, basketball fanatic, and a Mormon. I am currently serving my 2 year Mission.

About Me

I love to hike. Being at the top of a mountain is a feeling that cannot be described anywhere else. The only feeling that is close to being at the peak is being in the Temple. I love to play basketball and stay active. I love to serve my fellow man and the Lord. I am serving my mission in the Michigan Detroit Mission. I love reading the scriptures and learning the precious truths that are contained in them. I have a strong reliance on my Savior and he never lets me down. There is nothing that brings me greater joy than to see the smile on another's face.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it is the one church that I have been able to attend that has everything I would expect from my Father in Heaven. Every aspect of the Gospel that is introduced in the Bible is here. Every commandment and Word of Wisdom taught by the Apostles, Prophets, and Jesus Christ are preached and lived in this church. I believe in a loving Savior who never ceases to speak to Prophets whom He has ordained to lead His kingdom here on the earth. I believe in a constant God who does not change His doctrine so that man can feel okay making choices that were previously condemned. I have been to other churches and organizations and I have never felt The Spirit stronger than when I am associated with this wonderful church. I have seen the Gospel of Jesus Christ bless so many lives, including my own, as long as there is obedience to our Heavenly Fathers counsel.

How I live my faith

Currently I am serving a Mission in the Michigan Detroit Mission. Living my faith is Everything that I do. That faith is expressed as I share the love of Christ to those I am communicate with. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are as Christian as you can get when it comes to dedication toward their faith. I strive to become more obedient to not only the written laws and commandments we receive, (for example, the Missionary White Handbook, the Ten Commandments, the Word of Wisdom, etc) but also to The Spirit. If you are able to feel The Spirit constantly, your ability to act as Jesus Christ would act in a situation becomes emphatically apparent. With The Spirit as your guide, you are able to become a beacon of light and truth that people will notice. It is my ever constant goal to have that wonderful Spirit about me so that others can feel the Saviors love as much as I do every day.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Ray Nelson
Mormons believe in the bible because it contains the history of the ancient church in the middle eastern part of the world. It also contains specific and important events such as the creation of man. Also, if we didn't believe in the bible we would deny the truthfulness of the life and ministry of our Savior Jesus Christ. We are able to learn simple and precious truths through the bible and learn that God deals with different people the same way when it is compared with the Book Of Mormon. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Ray Nelson
Jesus Christ is the one who appoints a new prophet to lead Jesus Christ's church. The quorum of the 12 apostles has a senior apostle who generally is the one appointed by Christ to be the next church leader. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Ray Nelson
Mormons are not required to serve a mission. Although I can say that there is nothing better that an individual can do at the age of 18-19. Serving a mission helps an individual develop a strong trust in the Savior and helps other come unto Christ and provide hope and joy to their lives. If we are to truly follow Jesus Christs example, we should go and serve others by joining the growing ranks of missionaries. I do acknowledge the fact that serving a mission is not for everyone and some individuals cannot do so. I still respect and love those who choose not to or cannot do so. I know that serving a mission has a large potential to change the course of ones life for the better. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Ray Nelson
A testimony is a strong personal witness that a principle of the gospel is true. The Holy Ghost is the member of the godhead that helps individuals obtain that witness. People can receive a testimony by praying sincerely, with real intent, and asking God the Eternal Father if the principle they wish to receive a testimony about is true. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Ray Nelson
Alma 32:27-28. "...awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith... If you give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a good seed... It [will] beginneth to enlarge [your] soul.." If you Pray and read the Book of Mormon with a sincere heart and real intent you can come to know. Just try it out. Show more Show less
