Hi I'm Kolby Ashton

I am a student. I love being active. I love my family and my friends. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fourth of five children in my family. I also have five step siblings. I played lacrosse in high school, I like being outside. I am learning how to play the guitar, and I really enjoy all genres of music. I am currently two years into college, I love learning and plan continuing my education throughout my whole life. I have worked as a lifeguard, a janitor, a landscaper, and a salesman. My friends are very important to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been blessed to grow up as a Latter Day Saint. Of course everybody has struggles, and being raised a Mormon doesn't necessarily mean that life is going to be all hunky-dory. My oldest brother has been inches from death multiple times because of car accidents, my parents had a very painful divorce when I was 12, my next brother struggles with alcoholism, chewing tobacco, paying child support, and cancer treatments. I could list trials that my family and I have faced for pages, but that is not what is important. Throughout my life I have seen the blessings of the gospel everywhere I have looked. But I never had my own testimony until recently. Being Raised LDS gave me the option of coasting through life on the conviction and strength of my parents, and my community. When I was seventeen I had come to the point in my life where that was no longer an option. I was facing life changing decisions often concerning drugs and alcohol, sex, and my beliefs. What I had been taught as a child helped me make good decisions, but it just wasn't enough. I needed to know for myself. I began to read the Book of Mormon often, and pray with a real desire to know truth and light. Since then I have never stopped. My Prayers are always answered, although not always as I expect. I grow every day and become more Christ-like; of course I still have bad days, and I screw up, but through Christ I can be made whole again. That is why I am a Mormon. It is the Whole Truth. It is Powerful. It brings Pure Bliss. We still face trials every day, and sometimes life is incredibly painful, but the Gospel gives you the hope and strength to smile through every one of those trials. As I look back on my life I no longer ask, 'why me?' The spirit reveals to me the lessons I am learning and the man I am becoming. I now look ahead, Not knowing beforehand the things which I should do, but being lead by the spirit, I know that every trial I face Is just going to make it easier to smile.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to have the spirit with me at all times. I visit the temple regularly, and try to be kind to everyone. I love working with the children every sunday in the nursery. I get to play with and teach the kids between eighteen months and three years old. I also enjoy my home-teaching assignments, because it gives me the opportunity to get to know families and individuals in my community better. I am currently preparing to serve the Lord for two years in Samara, Russia! I am so excited!
