Hi I'm Alexandra

I was born in Canada, and I'm half Portuguese. I love to sing, and I attend high school. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello Everyone! Right now, I'm a sophomore (10th grader) in high school, and I'm a big participant in the Fine Arts! Singing and music are a big part of my life, and I've inherited many of my musical abilities from my mom. She has always been there to support me, mostly in my choral endeavors. I love the unity of being in a choir, and being a part of something bigger than myself. I also do a little piano on the side. ;) I have a love for books and learning, which I get mostly from my dad. There is nothing quite so satisfying as curling up in a warm blanket with a good book to read. :) I've also tried my hand at a bit of drawing, and there have been many a pencil sacrificed in the name of getting a sketch "just right".

Why I am a Mormon

Despite being a member of the church my whole life, I was never truly converted until rather recently. I had listened to my parents talk about their belief in Christ and in his atoning sacrifice for us, and I had attended church my whole life, but there came a point where I could no longer simply go through the motions or lean on the beliefs of my parents. My resolve began to slip, and I made decisions that I knew were wrong. I was guilty and depressed, and I felt like God had abandoned me. I could no longer feel happiness or peace. I felt worthless. I was lost... It was only through the repentance process that I really began to believe. It was only through learning for myself the reality of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ that I, for the first time in a long time, began to feel hope. In learning about the real worth and infinity of Jesus' sacrifice for me, and knowing that my sins could be completely forgiven and forgotten, I began to feel peace again. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I know that it is not made for perfect people. It is made for the lost. It is made for the broken heart, and the contrite spirit. It is made for those who hunger and thirst spiritually. It is meant to bring peace and happiness to our lives, it is made to give us a sense of direction and purpose. It is meant to bring hope. It is because of this church that I know that it is never too late for ANYONE.. I know that this is the Lord's church on the earth, because I have seen it completely transform people's lives...including my own. I love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I love my Father in Heaven. It is because I love them that I continue to live my life in the way that they would want me to--after the manner of true happiness and joy. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and their teachings continue to bring me closer to God. I say these things, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I participate actively in my ward choir, and I help lead the 14-15 year old girls in my Young Women's group. The songs that we sing in choir really help me to feel the Lord's Spirit, and it gives me a beautiful way to express the prayers and the feelings of my heart to God. When I help organize activities for my fellow young women, I always try to make them fun, while carefully tying in a spiritual message as well.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Alexandra
There is a song that beautifully explains the answer to this question: I know When I see a sunrise Spreading light I know when I look Into a baby’s eyes I know when I see the wonder Of nature’s great design But it’s more than all of this That testifies God lives I feel it when I study And His words bring Greater life to me I know because I’ve asked Him And I’ve felt Him answer me I can see So many evidences with my eyes But even when they’re closed I know, I know. I know When I feel the beating Of my heart I know when I stand beneath The mighty starts I know when a child sings When I’m filled with love and peace The evidence He’s real Lives inside of me I feel it when I ponder And the Spirit whispers truth to me I know because I live it And I feel it blessing me I can see So many evidences with my eyes But even when they’re closed I know, I know. Laughter, the planets ordered perfectly Music, love uniting us in families Only God, could create such wondrous things I can see So many evidences with my eyes But even when they’re closed I know, I know. What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Alexandra
We believe that the Bible is the word of God, and we believe that the Book of Mormon is also the word of God, and acts as a source of precious knowledge of things which are not written in the Bible, such as Christ's visit to the Americas. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Alexandra
We believe that families are vital to God's plan of happiness for us. Families are central to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they are the keystone of our faith. We believe that families can be together forever, even after death, through scared ordinances performed in God's temples here on earth. Show more Show less

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Alexandra
We believe that our bodies are sacred and precious gifts from our Heavenly Father, and should be treated with care and respect. Think of a gift that you treasure deeply--you wouldn't go and ruin or mutilate that gift, would it? That would be showing ingratitude towards the giver of the gift. Our bodies are the same way. When we present our bodies in a way that is vulgar or overly revealing, that sends a message not just to other people, but to Heavenly Father as well. It shows disrespect for the miraculous gift that He gave us so freely. It can also put us at a higher risk of immoral behavior. Therefore, if we dress modestly, we are more likely to obey the Law of Chastity. Show more Show less
