Hi I'm Kelsey S.

I am strong, confident and opinionated. I grew up in New Jersey and say words like "water" funny. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a civil engineering major who is in the process of applying to graduate school to further my education within the field, specifically working in transportation engineering. I enjoy making crafts, cycling, baking/cooking, playing board games and card games, amongst other things. I am the only member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in my family and love striving to be a good example to them.

Why I am a Mormon

From the time I was young, I was a fairly active member of my church's youth group. I would attend church every Sunday, along with church education classes and youth group activities. Within the span of three days my freshman year of high school, my life changed drastically. I went from being religious to finding out my best friend has stage four brain cancer to finding out he was no longer with me in this life to really hating God. This hatred found its way into all aspects of my life and I was a really miserable person. As I entered college, I was more lost than ever. I made a string of poor decisions that really made me realize that I hit rock bottom. I transferred colleges and at the start of my new school, I decided to start attending church. Instead of going back to the religion I was previously, I had the impression and desire to go to the LDS church. It was my second week attending church services that the missionaries asked if I would take the lessons. I agreed. From the moment, I started reading the Book of Mormon to gain a testimony for myself along with meeting with the missionaries. After finishing the Book of Mormon in 30 days, I had a baptism date set. I am Mormon because I read and prayed about the Book of Mormon. I received confirmation that it truly is another testament of Jesus Christ. I believe that there are prophets still on the earth today because God wouldn't change the way he helps his children. I continue to study and ponder the teachings of the Church daily. It is through these efforts that I am continually impressed upon by the Holy Ghost that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I am Mormon because it helps me not only in times of trials but in times of happiness. It is my constant companion.

How I live my faith

I have recently grown a lot in my faith as I experienced some hard personal trials. I learned that I could no longer dwell on my issues, but that I needed to turn my attention to those around me. I strive to live my faith by constantly searching for service opportunities. In a stake conference one time a speaker asked, "Are you striving to do everything you do in your life with love in your heart?" This really motivated me to better live my faith by working toward having the pure love of Christ as the main motivator of all my actions. I live my faith by not only studying it more in depth but by working on being more obedient to the commandments that I already understand and know.
