Hi I'm Mary Floisand

I grew up in Utah. I go to Brigham Young University and I'm studying Social Sciences. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy spending time with my family whether it be running, cooking desserts, or just playing games. I am a sophomore in college and my major is Teaching Social Sciences. Because I love running, I participated on my college Cross Country team and have enjoyed running races with my sisters as well. In addition to running, I love soccer and have played on many teams with my friends. I also love music and playing the piano.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that there is a God who loves me and I love him and being a Mormon is what He wants me to be. I am Mormon because I believe in an afterlife and in this afterlife I want to return to Heavenly Father and live in His presence and I know that the values that Mormons have will help me get there. I am a Mormon because I love my family and want to see them and be with them forever. Being a Mormon helps me do this because they guarantee that we will be with our families in the afterlife if we are worthy and if we keep promises with God that we make in the temple. I am a Mormon because the Book of Mormon is the key to their religion. I have read this book many times and I know the things that it discusses are true. I know that the Book of Mormon was written by a man named Joseph Smith and that my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ talked to him and helped him bring back Christ's church from the biblical time. Joseph Smith was a prophet called by God to be the leader of his Church on Earth and I know that today President Monson is that leader. Lastly, I love my brother, Jesus Christ, who is at the center of my life because I know that he made it possible for me to return to my Heavenly Father. He did this by giving his life and suffering for the mistakes that I made and will make. I stay in this Church because it brings me closer to Christ and it makes me happy.

How I live my faith

Some of the ways that I participate in my community is through the different service organizations. In my ward, I went to activities once a week to help people with different mental disorders, known as Special Needs. They are of every age group and they bring joy to my life. I also participated on a committee called the Quality of Life Committee where we helped college students become more physically active, financially secure, emotionally steady, mentally stable, and access to a job if they desired. Another way that I participate in my community is through something called visiting teaching. This is where I am assigned to be a "special friend" to someone else in my community to make sure that their needs are met and that they are happy. I visit them at least twice a month and for one of these I bring an inspirational message. Even though this is an assignment, I have grown to love these women and I consider them some of my best friends. When I moved to college, I also was part of a group of other students my age and we got together once a week to play games, do service, share inspirational messages, and have a good time.
