Hi I'm Shalyn

I'm a runner, a financial underwriter, an avid cookie dough eater and... I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I was born and raised in Utah. I just returned back to Utah after a few years of traveling and attending school out of state. I graduated last year in Communications with an emphasis in Organizational Behavior. During my time as a student I helped organize a day camp for inner-city youth in Chicago and also worked in the Teton Mountains for two summers as a youth counselor. I loved working with the youth. I had the chance to serve a mission for the church in Santiago Chile. I am recently married and love my sweet husband to bits. He is a full time student getting a degree in Organizational Behavior/Human Resources and I am a full time employee working in the approvals department of a financial institution. Between our two schedules like can get busy, but we try to spend all our spare time together. I love to play ultimate frisbee, run, read biographies and attempt to cook (it's a work in progress).

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to amazing parents who were also mormon. But, to me, being a mormon is not about following a family tradition. While I was taught the principles, there was a time that I had to find out for myself if it was really true. I know when I lived the teachings of the prophets and scriptures, I was deeply happy, and when I didn't live the teachings I was confused and discouraged. I read the Book of Mormon often, asking to know if God truly had restored his church. I put the teachings into practice to test it out and to see if God really kept his promises. Since then, and time and time again, I receive the answer that it iS true! I never feel more happiness and peace than when I live by it's teachings. It gives me direction when there are so many roads to choose from. It gives me peace in an unsettled world. It brings clarity to the many conflicting messages I hear in the world. It brings happiness.

How I live my faith

Right now I have the chance to work with the primary children from ages 3-11. Every week the primary children have classes and activities to help them learn about Jesus Christ. I work with 3 other women to make sure the logistics are taken care of so everything runs smoothly. My husband and I also helped organize a tailgate party for our neighborhood. We enjoy getting together with our neighbors and friends of all faith's. My faith influences my interactions with people. It influences how I respond to difficult situations at work. It influences how I spend my free time. It helps me make difficult decisions. It helps me put my priorities in place. My faith touches all aspects of my life.
