Hi I'm Kelsey

I'm a lover of music, literature, nature, and laughter. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was very blessed to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That decision changed my life!! If anyone asks me if they should serve a mission, I say, "pray about it, and go for it!". I served in the Illinois, Nauvoo Visitor Center (I now have 200 grandparents, aka Senior Missionaries) and the Maryland Baltimore Mission. Best of both worlds and I love it!! I love music. I love to sit at my piano and play and sing Broadway musicals, but my favorite times are when someone will come up behind me and start to sing with me. I love the outdoors. I grew up the 4th of 5 kids in a pretty outdoorsy family. We love to hike, rock climb, camp, backpack, canoe, mountain bike and pretty much anything else you can do outdoors. I love to see the beautiful world that our Heavenly Father created for us. He must love us a ton to give us such beautiful things. I love learning. I love to listen to people talk and hear about their experiences. I love to learn about life and how to live it to the fullest. I think that life is the most beautiful gift of them all.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that was already members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And I learned for myself that the doctrines taught by this church and my family are true. I've read The Book of Mormon many times in my life and I've prayed to my Heavenly Father to know if it was true. And he did answer my prayer. I know that Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God and that he did restore the fullness of the Gospel to the world once again. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the same as the church that Jesus Christ organized when he was performing his mission on earth. I know that this church has the power of the Priesthood which is the power of God given to his worthy sons. There have been many times in my life when I have been blessed with comfort and even healed through the Power of the Priesthood. I know that in the Temple families can be sealed together for eternity. So that even after death the bonds that were formed in this life will continue and we will remain as families forever, even after death. I live this gospel because I know that that is what the Savior, Jesus Christ wants me to do. He has given us commandments because in keeping them we become more like Him and my Heavenly Father which is one of the main purposes we had in coming down to earth. Living this gospel makes me happy. Living this gospel brings me peace. Living this gospel helps me to become more like my Father in Heaven so that I can return to live with him again. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is true! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's church led by living Prophets who guide and direct us so that we can become more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. I live it because it is TRUE!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my best to be the kind of person that my Father in Heaven wants me to be. I try to listen, I try to learn, I try to apply the lessons from my life and from other's lives to help me make better choices. I believe that we all have the choice of who we want to be. We are not stuck with who we are now. I believe that because of Jesus Christ's Atonement we can change who we are. We can't do it without Him, but with God all things are possible. I believe that we are led to become better every day. I try my best every day to do the things that God wants me to do, because as I try every day to do, soon it will become who I am. I hope to someday become the person that Heavenly Father wants me to be.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

I believe that the Lord set up His Church to give everyone the opportunity to learn how to serve and help others. This is why He set it up with no paid clergy. When we do things voluntarily we are giving of ourselves to the Lord with no thought as to what we will receive. We do it because we love Him and we love those that we serve. Our purpose in this life is to become like Jesus Christ, this is just one way that He has set up to help us achieve that goal. Great joy comes from this service. The knowledge that we are doing the Lord's will adds to that joy. We are helping other people to find joy and comfort as well, this brings some of the greatest joy that life has to offer. What is the First Vision?

The first vision is the Lord's answer to a question. We all have questions about life. What should we do? Where should we go? What will bring joy? These are very important questions and Joseph Smith had a very important question as well: "Which church should I join?" The First Vision was the Lord's proof that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He answered the prophet's questions in the Old and New Testaments and He continues to answer our questions today when we ask in faith with the desire to act on the answer we receive. Our Heavenly Father appeared to Joseph Smith face to face and answered his question. Though we may not receive our answers in the exact same way, I know that just like Joseph Smith, Abraham, Moses, Peter and others we can receive answers to our prayers. All you have to do is ask. ;) Show more Show less
