Hi I'm Matthew Mangum

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am preparing to serve a mission in Stockholm Sweden. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a student at the University of Utah. I am planning on moving on to medical school after I graduate. I am preparing to serve a mission in the Stockholm Sweden mission. I love all outdoors sports, including skiing, lacrosse, climbing, hiking, and wakeboarding. I play the guitar and love music. If I could I would live in a tent and travel the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised as a member of the church. However, it took me until High school to really decide that I wanted to take the challenge upon myself and find out if the church is really true. I prayed about it and searched the scriptures for answers. As I began to live all of the commandments and push myself to be more like Christ, I found a peace in my life that I could not find in any other way. I have realized that life is what you make of it, and that helping others is the way that I can be the happiest in this life. I am a Mormon because I WANT to be and for no other reason. People think religion is only somewhere you turn when you need comfort but that is not the case. I am a Mormon because it gives me direction in everything that I do. I have found myself a much much happier person and surrounded by people who truly care about and love me. I know that the atonement is real and that God's plan for us is to return to live with him one day and I am doing all that I can to fulfill this goal. I am a Mormon because I know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and that it contains the keys to our eternal happiness. I want nothing more than to live with my future spouse and family for time and all eternity.. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by pushing myself every day to learn more and more about the wonderful gospel that blesses my life. I do my best to always help others when I know they are in need of help and always try to stay positive and uplifting towards others. I do the best that I can to be a good example to those that look up at me and I do my best to always be kind to everyone that I encounter. I never know what someone else might be going through so I always try to help everyone that I can and never say things that would tear someone down. I live the gospel of Jesus Christ every single day cause there is nothing I can't stand more than someone that does not live what they preach.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Matthew Mangum
Having faith in Jesus Christ means that you trust him and are trying your best to be like him. It is not just to have faith but also to put it into action. If a family all has faith in Jesus Christ, it binds them together with common beliefs and will bring them closer to each other. Also, If we are trying our best to be more like Jesus Christ, we will treat each other with kindness and love. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of how we should treat our spouse, family members, or even friends. If both members of a marriage have faith in Jesus Christ, it can help them to have trust in each other, which is one of the most important components of a marriage. This mutual trust moves well beyond just faith in Jesus Christ. Marriages need to be built on mutual trust that both people will always be committed to each other and always treat the other with love and respect. By following all of the commandments and striving to be like Jesus Christ, it will keep marriages together and keep individuals away from sins such as pornography and adultery, which will keep families together and strong. What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Matthew Mangum
The word of wisdom is a commandment to treat our bodies with respect. We were created in the image of God, therefore we should treat our own bodies with the respect that God would want us to. We should not do anything to our bodies that would harm them in any way. This includes proper eating and physical exercise. It also prohibits the use of tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and any other illegal drugs that would harm our bodies or impair our thinking. We should also avoid tattoos and excessive body piercings because we are supposed to treat our bodies like a temple. Many think this is specifically just to keep our bodies clean, (which it is) but I believe that God has given us the Holy Ghost to guide us and when we treat our bodies as a temple of God the spirit is able to dwell inside of us and give us guidance in our lives. The spirit cannot do so as we defile our bodies in ungodly ways. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Matthew Mangum
The priesthood is the power of God on earth today. It gives men the authority to act in the name of God. All men who prepare will receive the priesthood in order to help lead the Church and serve everyone around them. Those with the priesthood are expected to be examples unto everyone and serve with love and kindness. Show more Show less
