Hi I'm Jelina

I'm a California Poppy, RM, aspiring teacher, and I'm a Mormon. :)

About Me

I think it's safe to say that I am a fairly active person, I'm very passionate about what I love. Dance, music, art, and photography make my heart happy. :) I love seeing beauty in all different aspects. I love to study dance, foreign languages, psychology/sociology, art, etc. I would love to manage a dance studio sometime in the future, exhibit my art and photography on the walls, and through the dance company sponsor charity benefit events. I love pretty much any kind of "boarding," even if I'm not a pro at it. My dad recently taught me how to kite-board, so that's a new hobby. I've had a wide range of jobs, but serving in any way is my favorite. I currently work with less-privileged youth in after school programs, and have learned a lot. I'm definitely grateful for what and who I have in my life. I plan on traveling and being involved in several charity organizations, because from personal experience I've learned that helping others is what brings true happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are converts, and were baptized in their teen years, but I've had the privilege of having the Church as a constant in my life. I'm incredibly grateful for their decisions to be baptized, because it's affected mine and my sister's lives so profoundly, and most likely will in ways I am yet to discover. At times I wandered, but found my way back. I noticed a difference in my life when I chose to go a different path, and I always felt as though something were missing. I was raised and taught Mormon beliefs, and always believed them, but how I really came to know it was true was on my own. I've placed trust in my Heavenly Father and I know He hears me. I know He loves me. The Book of Mormon is a testament of Jesus Christ, and contains the word of God. I know it is true. I know these things because I have felt the Holy Ghost testifying of it's truth. The warmth that fills my heart and has at many times brought me to tears, it's a feeling that I never want to lose. I am a Mormon. When I trust in my Heavenly Father and do my best to follow in Christ's footsteps, my heart is full and my mind is at peace. True happiness is possible. And I'll go to all ends of the earth to share what I've been so blessed to find, and do what it takes to live with my Father again.

How I live my faith

July of 2014 I returned home from serving an 18-month mission in NYC, and I loved it. I met so many people of different nationalities, cultures, and faiths, and learned more than I ever imagined I would. I chose to serve a mission because I have been greatly blessed in my life, and the best way I could show my Heavenly Father that I'm grateful for what He's given me, was by going out and serving others. Since the mission, I've been attending school and working, and have been lucky to have some incredible experiences sharing my beliefs with others. I enjoy teaching the 12-13 year old youth in Sunday School at church each week, and am trying my best to be the best member missionary I can be. Missionary work will always hold a special place in my heart. In a couple of months I have the privilege of going to the Dominican Republic to teach English and help build homes, I can't wait to serve the people there! I live my faith by trying.. I'm far from perfect, and often make mistakes. But I'm trying to follow in Christ's example, by loving others, maintaining high standards and continually learning about Him. It makes me happy :).
