Hi I'm Darby

I'm a Utahn, a BYU student studying Communication Disorders, I speak Spanish, and...I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a college student at BYU. I decided to study Communication Disorders soon after my mission. I was inspired by the idea of being able to make a lasting difference in people's lives. I specifically want to work with stroke or accident victims who have lost the ability to speak and help them regain some function. I love going outdoors and seeing new things. Here in Utah there are plenty of opportunities! I love trying new things. In the last year I've learned to play the guitar (at least a couple of chords), planted a succulent, and started training for a half marathon. I love my family and keeping in contact with them keeps me happy!

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born to two active members of the church, I am not a member simply because they are. If my family stopped going to church tomorrow, I would not. The first time I remember feeling that the church was true was when my family was reading the Book of Mormon together. After reading 1 Nephi Chapter 11. I knew that Jesus was the Christ, and that He gave His life for my sins, so that I could be clean, and live with Him again. I have had other experiences throughout my life that have confirmed and expanded my testimony. God has answered my prayers countless times, and I know that He always hears me, even if He doesn't answer in the way I expect.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is more than just going to church on Sunday, although that is really important to me. I live my faith by trying to become more like my Savior Jesus Christ. It starts with daily prayer. I love taking a second to just communicate with Heavenly Father and center myself. After prayer I take some time to study the scriptures. I love learning of Christ, who He was and how He lived. I try and read early in the morning after a run or some sort of exercise. Reading leaves me uplifted and makes the rest of the day more enjoyable. Then for the rest of the day I just live my life! I go to class, work, etc. but while I live, I do my best to keep Christ at the center of everything I do. I love offering service to others, I tend to give people rides since not all college kids have cars. I enjoy having gospel conversations with friends where we uplift and help each other. I've found that as I do the little things, God makes so much more of my life than I could ever do on my own.
