Hi I'm Kyra

I'm a current graduate student, a classically trained singer, and a F•R•I•E•N•D•S addict!

About Me

I'm a current graduate student working on a Masters in U.S. Foreign Policy with a B.A. in International Relations and Global Studies. While in college, I had the opportunity to live and study in Paris, France for 5 months. After college, I worked for the Texas House of Representatives and learned a lot, but moved to Washington, D.C. for graduate school.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church when I was 19 after my boyfriend left on his mission to Budapest, Hungary, so I could better learn about what he was doing for two years. I gained so much more - I gained an incredible community of people who care, a great group of friends, and a place where I can feel at home instantly. My boyfriend has been home for almost two years now and it's great having him back and sharing stories about Church!

How I live my faith

I was so lucky to serve in my ward's Relief Society Presidency for two different Relief Society Presidents as the First Counselor. It's so rewarding for me to put other's needs before my own and to constantly contemplate how I can best serve others. When I served as First Counselor, I got the opportunity to meet so many sisters and discuss with other auxiliary leaders about the needs within our ward and how we can best serve them!

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Kyra
The Church itself is apolitical. My bishop always encourages us to exercise our rights as American citizens and vote whenever an election is coming up. He never says WHO to vote for, he just says to vote! Show more Show less

What is faith?

Kyra
My favorite scripture about this is Alma 32:21 which reads, "And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." To me, this scripture sums it up perfectly. I will never completely know God's plans for me for the future, but I can hope, I can pray, and I can believe. Faith is about believing what cannot be seen with your eyes but rather with your heart, and seeing everything in your life be illuminated and blessed by this. I came to know the Book of Mormon is true not by seeing a huge miracle happen in front of me before my eyes, but rather by trusting in God and opening my heart to His plans for me. What is being a Mormon like?

Kyra
Being a Mormon is......wonderful! :) Being a Mormon is just living an everyday life: I wake up, go to school, do my homework, and eat meals - just like everyone else. But, in my free time, I read my scriptures, attend a Book of Mormon Institute class, and pray. I also abstain from coffee and tea for everyday consumption, and attend Family Home Evenings at church on Mondays. Show more Show less
