Hi I'm Nate (Elder Buchanan)

I grew up in Morgan Utah. I'm currently serving a mission in Indianapolis, Indiana.

About Me

In 2014 I plan on attending Utah Vally University to fulfill my dream of becoming a Fire Fighter and saving lives. For now, I'm out saving the spiritual lives of those in Indianapolis, Indiana on my LDS mission. While I was home I enjoyed riding my long board, and spending time with my friends and family. I love working outdoors and as a farm hand, working with farm animals and farming equipment. I love to rope and ride horses, and volunteer at our local rodeo each year.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I firmly believe what the church stands for. It makes sense to me, and I know that is exactly what our Father in heaven would want for us. One of the most important things we do on this earth is to have a family, and the family is engrained in every detail of the LDS church. The gospel that Christ taught is the same gospel taught in this church - it hasn't been modified, tweaked and removed due to popularity of the people - it's Christ's pure teachings given to us in it's most simple terms - Love One Another. I believe that religions should be tolerant of others that might not believe everything you do. I love how our Church takes every opportunity to reach out to other religions and help them achieve their goals, or assist them in helping someone else. Because that is what Christ himself would do. I believe that someone's religion shouldn't be placed on hold because it doesn't fit with what they want to do, or believe in at that time. Our religion is a lifestyle - it's something you choose to do through fasting and prayer, and then live for the rest of your life. So many problems in life are avoided by just following the gospel. Sometimes people have called me "lucky" for not having as many problems as they have had in their life. I believe that by following the gospel, and having faith in Jesus Christ that many of life's hardships can be avoided or won't be as bad. I can't imagine life without my religion. It teaches me to love, not hate - to serve, not to sit back and watch - and to appreciate the blessings we have, and not take them for granted. I wish for everyone that reads my message to feel what I have felt, to know the truths about us and what we stand for. Sometimes it takes the courage to just jump in and try it to understand it. I love the my Father in Heaven for giving us his Son, and for Christ and the sacrifices he made, that allow me to be here at this time, and to be able to return to his presence one day.

How I live my faith

I have held multiple callings in my church. I've been the leader of my age group (called a quorum) several times, and am always looking for opportunities to serve others. As a leader, it's part of your job to teach the others how to serve. Not just those of my faith, but everyone in our community. Our church doesn't discriminate based on your beliefs - we love everyone and are always willing to help. It was amazing to see the entire community come together last year when our little town was flooding. When our church called for help, my dad, brother and I jumped into action and worked throughout the night to help anyone who's house was in danger.
