Hi I'm Jack

My name is Elder Vawdrey. I grew up in Utah, then moved to California, and now am serving a mission in Florida.

About Me

I like to play sports like basketball and soccer and rugby and ultimate. But there is also a softer side to me. I enjoy spending sentimental moments with my friends. Nothing soothes my soul greater than listening to some Gold Motel or Julieta Venegas music. I will be serving a mission in Brazil soon. I am excited for it.

Why I am a Mormon

I think the best way to describe the reason why I am a member of this church is that it makes people happy. And it's not an ignorant type of happy. You know exactly why you're happy: you are able to receive a remission of your sins through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The practices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints keep you in a place where you can just feel good about your relationship with your family, friends, peers, Heavenly Father, and with yourself.

How I live my faith

Just trying to keep myself in a good state of mind, so that no matter where I am, I feel like I can connect with God.

In whom should we have faith?

Jack
All of us ought to develop faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and so it has always had a pretty powerful influence in my life. But it wasn't until I went away to school, away from my family, that I really had to start figuring out what faith in Jesus Christ meant. Faith to me means that you trust that God will fulfill all of his promises and that in his own time we will be blessed based upon our obedience to what he has commanded us. I would say that obedience to Jesus Christ's commandments and faith in Jesus Christ are concepts that are nearly synonymous. Being away by myself at school, as well as now on my mission, it is very much up to me whether or not I want to be obedient, or rather, whether or not I really want to be faithful. From all that I have experienced up to this point, every time I have acted in faith and trusted that my obedience will result in a positive outcome, I have found true and lasting happiness.
