Hi I'm Kathy

I've lived in Oregon, Alaska, Washington, California, Utah, and Minnesota. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the second child in a family of five. After high school, I attended college for two years. I married when I was nineteen and had six children, three boys and three girls. When I was just forty-one, my husband died. Seven years after my husband's death, I returned to college and earned my bachelor's degree in education. I taught school for fifteen years and now am retired. Besides teaching school, I have worked as an activity director in a nursing home, been a secretary, and taught piano lessons in my home for over thirty years. I've always loved music and sung in several community choirs.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith has sustained me, especially after my husband's death. When I first became a widow, my oldest child was nineteen and my youngest, three. Although I couldn't see what was in my future, I believe that my prayers were answered and I was guided in my decisions for myself and my family. After seven years, l sold my house, packed my family's belongings into a rental truck, traveled over one thousand miles, found a home, and was able to finish my education. I did this with blind faith, and everything worked out. I know that my Father in Heaven was watching over me; He directed my path and sustained me. My knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ has given me the strength and hope to move forward.

How I live my faith

For over forty years I have been involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Den Leader, Cub Master,Cub Scout Day Camp Director, merit badge counselor or served in various district scouting positions. I received the Silver Beaver and Award of Merit Awards recognizing my scouting service. I also served as a Girl Scout leader in my community for ten years. In addition, I have volunteered at my children's schools as a room mother, choir accompanist, and taught after school art, music, and science enrichment classes. I have also served as the music director and accompanist for my church's children's organization for more than twenty years. In addition, I have been responsible for directing my church's young women's group, age twelve through eighteen, for nine years. I taught weekly classes, organized activities, and directed camps for the young women. I also have served as a choir director and organist at my church over the years. I feel I have lived by the saying that when you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only the service of your God.
