Hi I'm Richard

I grew up in South Africa. I grew up LDS but have become converted to the gospel for myself. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of five children, and as such have always had a hard time living up to my siblings' legacy. However because of this I have learnt the importance of family as I have seen how they can build eachother up with their very different skills. I have finished High School and am going on a mission before my tertiary education. Things that I enjoy doing for hobbies are carving wood, reading books, fixing things around the house and gaming. What I wish to do with my life is become an engineer and design drones to perform search-and-rescue operations, I feel this is a necessary need and that it will benefit everyone.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but my parents always emphasised that we as children needed to one day find our own testimony. So by studying the scriptures and the words of the prophets, by praying for guidance and revelation I received my own testimony of the truthfullness of the Gospel. I know now without a doubt that this is the only true and living church on the earth today. I know especially well from personal experiences that we have a truly loving Heavenly Father and Saviour and that no matter how far we go They will always forgive you, no matter how you have transgressed, though the path to repentance may be hard. I know that we have a living prophet on the earth today and that is a good reason why I am a Mormon. Because we are literally led by Christ. I know of no greater reason to be a Mormon than the fact that because we are guided by Christ, He must love us, because He loves us he must want us to return to our Father in Heaven and because he wants us to return to Him we CAN! If we but listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

How I live my faith

I participate by fulfilling my callings in the church to the best of my ability, this includes being a Home Teacher (visiting members each month and assisting them, teaching them). I join my Ward in providing service to our community in Helping Hands projects, personal projects and any other needed service. I also try to stand as a witness at all times of my church and beliefs, by committing to all my covenants and the commandments given to us from God. I keep the Holy Sabbath holy, by being reverent on it and attending church.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Richard
The Word of Wisdom is the guidance from a loving Heavenly Father on how to look after our bodies. It speaks on how we shouldn't partake of things that are harmful to our bodies (such as tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, illegal drugs). However we mustn't look at it as a physical/ temporal law. It is given to us as a spiritual law. By living the Word of Wisdom we gain healthy bodies and minds but it also gives us spiritual blessings that people sometimes don't think about, even though that is more important. These blessings are: being able to recognize the spirit more, be guided in your day to day decisions and having a clear mind in all that you do. As I said earlier the Word of Wisdom speaks about not partaking of bad substances that will harm our bodies. Our bodies are gifts given to us from God and so we should respect them and look after them. God gave us the Word of Wisdom to help us do that. We have all the tools to help us in this life but it is up to us to listen and obey. It is very simple to live once you know for certain that it is right but it can be hard to get into it. But I know that once you ask for help from Heavenly Father in doing that, He will help and guide you and you will never feel more love than you will from Him when he knows you are trying to do what he wants you to do.
