Hi I'm Matt

I'm a bagpiper, an actuarial student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I learned to play the bagpipes in high school, and I've practiced other instruments, including the piano and the clarinet. I really enjoy music and the comfort, excitement, and attitude it brings. I'm currently studying statistics at a university near my home town, in hopes of one day becoming an actuary. I love to play sports and get outdoors, but I also enjoy my at-home time to read, talk, and ponder.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I've come to know that this is Christ's true church. He established it when He walked the earth, and now that He's a resurrected being, He has restored it once again in its fulness. I know this because of the evidence that we give to all the world: The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Its pages teach us His gospel, as taught to the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. I've read this book more than any other, and I know that what it teaches is true. This book is evidence that God loves all His children, in all times and in all places. For that reason He calls prophets to guide us, to prompt us back to the path towards our heavenly home. I know that I can follow God through His living prophet, and I will be happy in this life, and one day I will return to live with Him again.

How I live my faith

One of the big things I try to do to live my faith is to serve those around me. I love to look at people and picture myself as them. What would I be thinking, or needing in that moment? That's my passion, and I believe that's what Christ did. I love the feeling I get as I help others. As a Mormon I have a great opportunity to give service on behalf of those around me, especially of those in my neighborhood. I can teach them, love them, visit them, and receive the same qualities and acts in return.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a book of ancient scripture, like the Bible. That means it was written by prophets who saw and talked with God from time to time. They received God's teachings - His plan for us so that we can be happy - and they both taught them to the people they lived around at that time, and they wrote them down so that future generations could read God's teachings. The big difference between the Book of Mormon and the Bible is where it was written: The Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets in the Americas. Besides that they are very similar, in that they teach of Christ, faith in God, the plan of happiness, etc. I love that this book proves that God loves all of His children, no matter where or when they live. He wants everyone to be happy and learn of his plan and follow it. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Church is where we go each week to gather together with Saints, to worship, sing, pray, teach, learn, and grow closer together as families. It's a place where anyone can come to feel wanted, and to learn of his or her unique identity as a precious son or daughter of God. All are invited and encouraged to attend. The temple is quite literally the House of God, as it was even in the Old Testament. Only those who were striving to live a righteous life could enter in, and take part in the ordinances there. An ordinance is a sacred ritual; baptism is a prime example of an ordinance. In the temple, sacred ordinances are performed for those who are ready to take upon themselves such things. To enter the temple requires a lot of spiritual preparation and learning. But once one gets to that point of spiritual understanding and maturity, the temple offers a unique teaching atmosphere where one can feel to be literally in God's presence. Show more Show less
