Hi I'm MarKaye Hassan

I love theater, poetry, and dancing in the kitchen. I'm currently serving a mission in Calgary Canada. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the second in a family of four kids, I love my family very much, and we are very close. I also have a large extended family, my mother is from a family of six and my dad is from a family of seven, and we get together as often as we can. I always feel of their love for me. I still have all four of my grandparents, and one great-grandmother. I love to talk to them about their childhood and research deeper into my family history. I have been acting since I was eight years old, dancing since I was nine, and singing for as long as I can possibly remember. I also won third place in a national poetry recitation contest, and make YouTube videos. I love the opportunities I have to develop and share my talents with others. Currently I am serving a mission for the church in Calgary, Canada. I have always wanted to go on a mission and I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have to be serving the Lord full time.

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky enough to be born into the gospel, and to have a family that has always been very strong in it. I have often thought about where my life would be if I did not have the blessing of the gospel in my life and did not live by the standards that it teaches. I feel that because I have been so blessed with musical/performing talents I could lose myself in following worldly goals and forget what really matters. When I am doing all of the small and simple things every day to draw closer to my Heavenly Father, I can feel the difference that it makes in my life in the way that I am able to get things done, in my relationship with my family and friends, and in the way that I view myself and my individual worth. I am a happier, more productive, and more peaceful person when I am inviting the holy spirit into my life. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I read from it regularly, and I love the way it makes me feel.

How I live my faith

(this is from just before I left for my mission) For the last few months, I have been going to a "Young Single Adult Ward" which is a congregation. It was exciting for me to start going to the single's ward, because as an adult I have had more responsibilities and opportunities available to me. I have already received my first calling, ward choir director, and I spend a lot of time looking for music and conducting the ward choir. I have loved it so much. My ward has an unusually large and strong choir, and I always feel so blessed to be with their voices. We can really feel the Spirit in the room as we learn songs to praise the lord and sing them in our church meetings. Every Sunday I go to church from 1:00 to 4:00 and study with my peers from the scriptures (including the Book of Mormon, King James Bible, Doctrines and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price) and from the words of modern-day prophets. We learn and grow together, and build upon each other's testimonies and spirits. It is my absolute favorite time of the week because I know that no matter what is going on in my life, I can go to church and feel safe and learn how to grow closer to my Heavenly Father and loving savior Jesus Christ. Throughout the week, I get to learn more of the gospel by going to the "Institute" where you can take university-level courses that teach of the gospel. Since I am preparing to go on a mission now, I am taking a "Mission Prep" class. Every day we talk about how to connect with people and share the message of the gospel with them. I am also taking a New Testament class that talks in great detail about the life of Christ and his Ministry. I love going to the Institute, where I can learn from great teachers and leaders, I always feel such a great spirit there and every time we learn something new, I have the overwhelming confirmation that it is true.
