Hi I'm April

I'm a convert, a photographer, a college graduate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to do anything with a needle and thread (Sewing, quilting, crochet, knit, embroider, cross stitch, etc.). I am spunky and have an attitude, but I also love to read, write, take pictures with my D-SLR, and laugh. I laugh at everything and everyone- but especially at myself. Laughter is the best medicine, and humor is the best outlook on life. I graduated from college in December 2012, with a degree in journalism, and I love to talk to people. I believe everyone has a story to share, even (and especially) the quiet people. I love being outdoors and hiking. I believe that food brings the world together, creates friendships and experiences that cannot otherwise be achieved. I am always growing and changing, because to become stagnant in life is to move backward.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because this faith, this religion, gives me joy. Whenever my life has hit rock bottom, the church found me. I am a Mormon because I've felt the power of the priesthood, which is God's power here on earth. I know that when I read the scriptures, I get answers to my questions, no matter how simple or small they may seem. I know that when I pray, God will answer me, whether it's by a friend or a stranger or with my own understanding and learning. God loves me. He loves you, and I know he loves every one of us, because I've seen it in my own life, in the lives of those around me, and felt it in my heart. There is no person unloved by God. There is so much I've accomplished that wouldn't have been possible without my Heavenly Father. I was adopted when I was 5 into a family that is so caring, so loving, and so kind. My mother is my hero, and my parents stuck with me through some really difficult times. This is how I know there is a God. Because me being placed into a family that is perfect for me, giving me opportunities I never would have had, and the ability to break the cycle, proves that to me. I'm a Mormon because I have prayed and received the answer to my prayers, more times than I can count.

How I live my faith

I teach Sunday School in my church- a class where we discuss our beliefs and discuss the words our prophets- both current and past- have said. Being a teacher means I get to see people grow in their understanding of the Gospel, in their relationships with others and become a part of their lives. Being a teacher means I get to bear my testimony, share my belief of the truth of the Gospel every week, at least once. It means I get to listen to my students, draw out their experiences, insight, and knowledge. I get to listen to the Holy Ghost, and be a vessel through which He can communicate with others and answer prayers.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

April
Have you ever felt like you couldn't talk to someone because you were scared, ashamed, or knew they wouldn't understand what it was like? I have. Jesus Christ suffered all things in order to know how to succor us. In order to know how to comfort and console us. In order to allow a pathway through which we can be forgiven for the mistakes we've made. He suffered for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross so we could repent, and become better. Repenting means asking for forgiveness of God, and the people who have been harmed by our actions. It means forgiving those who have hurt you. It means changing. Whether you change your bad habits by giving those habits up and keeping the commandments, or you change your perspective to change how you act, the Savior is the one that makes that possible- through prayer, leaving sins / bad habits / unhappy situations behind and leaning on the Savior's atonement.
