Hi I'm Daryl Peterson

I'm LDS and proud of it! I come from pioneer stock in Idaho and now serve my Heavenly Father however I can.

About Me

I grew up on a farm in Idaho and learned from my parents to take care of myself. After public school I attended college and graduate school in physics. Currently I work as a scientist at a national laboratory. Idaho is a wonderful place to live with beautiful mountains, great rivers, and fantastic people. I love to fish, hunt, hike, and ski. Each morning I ride my bike in the hills and enjoy a country life. Each summer I grow a garden full of vegetables and even have a greenhouse with fresh tomatoes and peppers until almost Christmas! The nights are clear and I love to look at the heavens. Astronomy is my hobby and I want to study the origins of the universe - Cosmology. Me and my wife have 4 children and 5 grandchildren that enjoy visiting our home and traveling around the area.

Why I am a Mormon

I enjoy reading and learning. My parents introduced me to the Book of Mormon at an early age. Reading it brought me great joy and happiness. I understood through its pages and the Bible that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings happiness to our lives and enhances the lives of those around us. Through these teachings I hope that I'm more charitable now that if I was left to my own devices. On top of these benefits to following the teachings of Jesus Christ, I have studied and prayed, and have received a personal witness that my Savior, Jesus Christ, lives and loves us, that he has a prophet here on earth, and that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and is a companion to the Holy Bible. I'm certainly not unique in this belief. Anyone that wants to know that these teachings are true is welcome to study it out also and, through sincere prayer, receive the same witness.

How I live my faith

God has blessed me with a great family. I can never repay him for this wonderful life. I've been a scoutmaster (love the camping part!) in the church-sponsored Boy Scout program, teacher of youth, asked to be a leader in the church adult organizations, and currently my assignment is to lead a "ward" of students at Brigham Young University - Idaho campus as the "Bishop". These are all voluntary assignments without monetary compensation. But the rewards of helping others and seeing them improve their lives is well worth the effort. It is hard not to love these students and dedicate 20-30 hours per week (or more) to helping them. I think these assignments have made me more understanding of the problems that others face, and have helped me eliminate some of the selfish and inward-thinking aspects of my own life. I find great joy in helping others.

What is faith?

Daryl Peterson
Faith is a principle of action. I have found that following the gospel of Jesus Christ, even when the outcome is not certain, always results in a positive outcome. I try to do all that is required of my my calling as a Bishop. Sometimes it is without a firm knowledge of how it should turn out, but the Lord has never disappointed me. The results are always as he has promised. Show more Show less
