Hi I'm Dax

I'm a writer, a dreamer, and an explorer. I'm a Full-Time Missionary in Norway. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am constantly in a state of motion. I can't stick down to one place! I was born in South Carolina, and lived in Texas and Turkey as a toddler. I spent my childhood in Colorado and my teenage years in Utah. I attended Brigham Young University-Hawaii and I am currenly serving as a full-time missionary in Norway! I love to hike and I love to explore. I love the Rocky Mountains in the USA, the Hawaiian Islands and the mountains and fjords that span Norway. I have tried my hand at cliff-jumping, river-rafting, skydiving, kayaking, and snowboarding. I love being out in nature and finding new things to explore. I love to read and to learn! I can get lost in a book faster than anything else. I love history and I love learning about ancient religions and civilizations. I love to write and I hope that the things that I learn and experience will inspire me to write something fascinating! My dream job? I would love to be a modern day Indiana Jones. If not, a stay-at-a-home dad/full-time storyteller. But I will probably have to settle and get a real job first. (And yes, I loved all THREE Indiana Jones Movies!)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I am a Christian. I truly believe that the True Gospel and Church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth with the same purity and simplicity that existed in the days of the Apostles. I am where I am today because of two young teenage boys. The first young teenage boy, in 1820, was concerned for the welfare of his soul. He wanted to follow Christ and he wanted to be saved. His yearnings led him into the forest, where he prayed to know which church he should join. There, he was visited by God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ. He was just 14-years-old. His name was Joseph Smith. He was called as a prophet to restore the True Church of Jesus Christ. The second young teenage boy, in the mid 2000s was unsure of his place in life. He felt unloved and unappreciated. He wondered if his life was worth living. With no one to talk to -- and with no outlet to express his fears, his wishes, his hopes and his worries -- he turned to God. He began to pray, and to scream, and to vent to some unknown Being who was supposed to exist on the other side of the ceiling. Amidst the tears and the anger, a feeling of peace came. A loving Heavenly Father reached out with kindness and concern. A relationship was forged between this young, confused, and troubled boy and the God of Heaven and Earth. No lights were seen. No personages appeared. But love was felt. And after a while, it was that young boy's turn to listen. He was reminded of the Book of Mormon. He read and prayed to know if the Book of Mormon and its message, about the healing power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, was true. The answer came. That second young boy was me. Because of the Book of Mormon, I came to know that Christ was my Savior.

How I live my faith

I believe that we are saved by grace. Grace, the divine strength we receive from Jesus Christ, inspires us, motivates us, and ENABLES us to do great things! I have chosen to dedicate the best two years of my life to serving the Lord as a full-time missionary. It is a small expression of the great love that I have for my Savior. I know that I will never be able to pay Him back, but I know that I can be an instrument in His hands so that He can bring back His other lost sheep. I love the people of Norway! I love all the people that I have met from all over the world! I don't serve people out of a selfish desire to earn "heavenly brownie points". I serve people because I see that they need help and I know that my Savior would help them. I hope that I can develop the same love for people that I know my Savior has for them.
