Hi I'm Nicole

I'm from upstate New York. I love to write. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a young adult trying to find my way in the world. I have wanted to get into a medical profession since I was young. I studied nursing in college but, while I love patient care, I still do not know what occupation will best match my skill set and what I want to do. As a hobby I enjoy creative writing, especially poetry. I also love to sing and I will often start singing to myself the random songs that are always stuck in my head. However, that only happens when I don't care if anyone who overhears me thinks that I'm any good or not. I was home-educated until I started college. My family is very important to me, and my greatest goal in life is to someday get married and raise children who will be good, strong people.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints my entire life, but my life has been a process of conversion to His gospel. I cannot pinpoint an exact moment when I knew that this church is true, but I can think of many moments that have strengthened my testimony of specific teaching and doctrines. I am a Mormon because I want to come closer to Jesus Christ and have His light in my life. There have been times in my life when I have let my relationship with my Savior slip a little, but have found joy when I seek Him. Right now the long-term plans that I had for my life are flying to the wind, but I know that God understands more than I will ever know. He has a plan for me individually and when I trust in His power He will lead me to greater happiness than I can imagine at this time. In small ways God has shown me that my plans will not always provide for my needs, and that He has a plan that will help me grow into the best person that I can become. I guess I could say that I am a Mormon because the things that I have learned in this church bring me great joy, and when everything else in my life falls away I know that these are the truths that will hold me up and help me return to my Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in my community by trying to love and serve those who I meet. I try to remember that everyone I meet is a son or daughter of God. I love to make my friends laugh when they are having a bad day. I have had several opportunities in my life to serve others at church, such as teaching and leading the music for Sunday meetings. These opportunities have helped me develop a Christlike love for others as I serve them. These opportunities to serve have made me happier, and have helped me feel more of the great love that Christ has for me. Now I have an even greater opportunity to act on Christ's love as I serve as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I spend all of my time doing everything that I can to teach and serve others, helping them come closer to Christ. Some days it is hard work because people don't want to talk to us, or we do not know where to go or what to do, but I am learning that as I pray and trust in the Lord He guides me to people who need my help. This experience is helping me to know even more surely that God has a plan for each of us, and that we will not fall when we trust in Him.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

While it is encouraged, especially for young men, nobody is required to serve a mission. I personally want to serve a mission for a few reasons: 1) The gospel of Jesus Christ has brought me so much happiness that I want to share that happiness with others. 2) Through the gospel I have been able to feel God's love for me personally. I have learned that He loves each of us unconditionally and I want to do what I can to share His love with His other children. 3) I feel that by serving a mission the Lord will be able to help me grow into a better person. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Absolutely! As I learn more about Jesus Christ I learn more about the love that He has for all people at all times. Before He sent His Beloved Son our Heavenly Father sent prophets, such as Moses, to lead His people in righteousness. In Moses' day the children of Israel struggled with trusting in the Lord and following Him. Moses knew about and experienced their struggles, and he was called of God to be a constant voice reminding them to return to Him. Although our circumstances now are different from those that the Israelites faced, at the root of the problem we still need to make the decision whether or not we are willing to trust in and follow God in our day. A prophet in The Book of Mormon named Alma taught his son: "Behold, I say unto you, is not a soul at this time as precious unto God as a soul will be at the time of his coming? "Is it not as necessary that the plan of redemption should be made known unto this people as well as unto their children? "Is it not as easy at this time for the Lord to send his angel to declare these glad tidings unto us as unto our children, or as after the time of his coming?"(Alma 39:17-19) A loving God would never leave us to make these important decisions alone. He has called a prophet today, Thomas S. Monson, who knows and has experienced the troubles of our day. I know this is true because I have prayed about it. As I live what he has taught I have been guided in my life as the children of Israel were guided to their promised land. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

There are so many things that show me that God really does exist! Looking at the details in the world around me I cannot believe that all of this came about without a plan and a creator. Setting that aside, I see even more evidence of God's existence as our Eternal Father in the plan that He is carrying out in my life. Every time that I have seen a major change in my life I have felt His presence with me guiding me through the rough times. I know that there is a God because when my Dad left He reminded me that I always have a Father in Heaven who loves me. I know that there is a God because I have seen how He helped my Dad change and come back. I know that there is a God because I have seen how every time something goes wrong in my life He makes it work out. That could be written off to coincidence, but looking back after those times I have seen how God has put things in my life to prepare me for those changes long before I knew that they were coming. I am not saying that everything has always gone right in my life. I know even more that there is a God because so many times in my life His plan has not been near what I thought was best for myself, but every struggle that He has sent me has helped me become the person that I am today.
