Hi I'm Gavin Gordon

I'm a musician, video game player, and lover of learning, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a 2 year mission for the church in Calgary, Canada. Before the mission I went to BYU Provo for a year and loved it. I love listening to lots of different kinds of music. I like dancing, singing, playing, learning theory, etc... I can play french horn, trumpet, tuba, piano, and sing a bit. French horn is my main instrument, and I plan on working on a bachelors degree in french horn performance when I return from my misison. Music isn't my entire life. One of my favorite hobbies is playing video games. I love to play them, and they are very good at helping me relax and turn off my brain for a little while. I also enjoy reading, soccer, board games, and learning. I took a variety of different science classes while I was at BYU including Microbiology, Astronomy, and Psychology.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, but I am not Mormon just because my parents want me to be. When I was about fourteen I decided that I needed to find out for myself if the church was true or, in other words, if being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the right path for me and if the principles it taught were true principles. I received an answer that it was the right path for me and that the church did in fact teach the truth. I knew that this was an answer from God because I had received answers from him before. When I received that answer I decided that I needed to, from then on, do my very best to do God's will and also try my hardest to learn exactly what his will was for me. And as I have done this I have found joy in my life. Sometimes I ask myself, "Am I happy?", and I can truthfully answer, "Yes, I am." I then ask myself, "well, why? Why am I happy?" This is a legitimate question because my life is not perfect. There are lots of things that I could be miserable about, but then I realize that I am happy because I have done my best to serve the Lord and repent of my sins, and because of this, He blesses me with joy and peace. I love being a Mormon and I love being on a mission! I would like to invite anyone who is reading this to learn more about the Mormon church, learn about the doctrines and principles we teach and then pray and ask God if they are true. He WILL answer you. I express these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

Being Mormon effects every part of my life. Everything I do is because, or is at least influenced by, my being a Mormon. Serving on a mission is one way I live my faith. I am going out and trying to share the gospel with as many people as I can. Serving a mission is very hard. I can't see my family or friends for 2 years, and I can't play video games or watch TV while on my mission. On my mission I've learned a lot so far about how to better follow the Savior. My capacity to love and serve others has increased. I also live my faith by writing my family and friends back home to try to help them and strengthen them in any way I can. If they are struggling I try to be their friend, serve them, and address their needs.
