Hi I'm Denali

I'm from a tiny Alaskan village. I love Nutella. I am a missionary serving in England. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family! I am the fourth out of six children. We live in a little village with about 100 people or so. Life out in Bush Alaska is a very different. The only way in or out is by plane or boat. I graduated with one other student. Church is done over the phone with many other families just like ours spread throughout Alaska. Life there is simple but beautiful. From fishing to bear watching to riding four-wheelers, there is so much beauty in nature. I love the outdoors! I also love sports from volleyball and basketball to softball and running! I attended Brigham Young University Idaho for two years studying biology. I hope to be a physicians assistant someday. When I'm not busy with sports or school, I love to play the piano, guitar, and sing. Music is such a big part of my life! Currently, I have been called to serve in the England Manchester Mission, and I feel so privileged for the opportunity I have to share the gospel and represent Jesus Christ for 18 months!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have discovered for myself that this is the true gospel of Jesus Christ restored on the earth today. Because I was born into a Mormon family, many think that I have had no choice but to be a Mormon. However, I have struggled with my testimony, I have wanted to know the truth. So I followed the instructions found in Moroni 10:4. I read the Book of Mormon and asked in God in prayer if the things I read were true. I felt in my heart what I think I always knew, that it was true! The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I then knew if the Book of Mormon is true, then the Prophet Joseph Smith is a true prophet, and he did restore the gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth again. I am a Mormon because I love the gospel and the happiness and hope it brings me! I know my purpose in life. I have hope that I can be with my family forever! Family is so important to me, and being a member gives me that peace of mind that I can be with them forever. I am a Mormon because I know it's true, and I love it!

How I live my faith

I was blessed to be born into a Mormon home, and was baptized when I was 8 years old. I have loved being raised in the church. It has given me so much purpose and direction in all other aspects of my life. I was recently a Sunday School teacher and had the opportunity to share the gospel in a classroom setting. Now that I have a mission call, I will soon have the opportunity to share the gospel outside of the classroom and in the homes of investigators and members.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

As a missionary, we proselyte simply because of the two greatest commandments: to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. God has commanded that we go out and "teach all nations" (Matthew 28:19). If we love Him, we will strive to keep his commandments, which includes missionary work. He asks us to do this because we are all God's children. He wants everyone to hear the good news! To truly love our neighbors is to want them to be eternally happy, and the gospel of Jesus Christ is the path whereby we can be eternally happy. Missionaries go to all nations to proselyte, finding as many people as possible, so that they can help others find that path that leads to eternal life and happiness. Show more Show less
