Hi I'm Maureen

I live in Robinson, IL with my husband and four cats. I am an Assistant Professor in Health Sciences. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married and have four cats. I'm Assistant Professor in Health Sciences. I enjoy reading and never get tired of learning. When I'm not working, I like being home. I have an hour commute each way to work, so I have just started using that time to start learning some new languages (e.g., Spanish and Mandarin Chinese). I was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on September 5, 2010. Since I joined the Church, my life has definitely changed for the better,

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Catholic. I am now very grateful for this, as I realized the strong spiritual foundation it has given me. I learned to be reverent towards our Heavenly Father, which is something that almost seems to be discouraged by mainstream society. However, I felt like I was spiritually missing something and tried to find it in other Christian churches. Believe it or not, it was actually through something unkind that made me curious enough to look at the Mormon.org Web site and read about the beliefs of Latter-Day Saints. I also remember a commercial from the 80's called "Never Tell a Lie" that I had seen as a young girl. I had remembered how refreshing this commercial was in the midst of all of the other commercials that conveyed the message that if kids didn't have or do certain things, they were losers. In a society where children and adults are encouraged to have an arrogant attitude towards others and that the only way to be worthy is to put other people down, being a Mormon really has helped me to see the good in others. Being a member of the Church allows me to look past the challenges I face on a daily basis and to remember that this world is only a test to see if I am worthy to live with our Heavenly Father again.

How I live my faith

For the past two years, I have been teaching children in our branch. It has been so rewarding working with the children because they are such great examples to others. I also enjoy teaching the children because whenever I prepare a lesson, I learn a great deal myself. I always feel the Holy Spirit is with me when I am teaching the children. Once a month, an assigned companion and I also visit a lady in our branch and teach her a lesson from one of the Church magazines. This has been a wonderful way to get to know her because since I teach children, I don't always have the chance to speak with her on an individual basis. I engage in regular prayer and scripture study, both of which have strengthened me spiritually and physically.

Are Mormons Christians?

I wouldn't be in a member of the Church if it weren't Christian. I have never found a Church more committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Show more Show less
