Hi I'm Matt

I was born in Utah, I live in Tennessee, the middle of the "Bible Belt", and I am called to serve in the Italy Milan Mission!

About Me

I was born in Salt Lake City Utah and am one of 7 kids born to a blended family. I am the secondd youngest and am serving a mission in The Italy Milan Mission. My family moved away from Utah when I was eight, so I know how it is to be surrounded by people of the same faith but to also be one of the few members of the church in my grade. This has really helped me in finding for myself that the church was true. I didn't have a lot of other friends who were my age and Mormon. In fact for a long time there were no other guys I knew that were members of the church. In that time I really started to find for myself, not because of anyone else, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ's true church upon the earth. That is why starting in January of 2013 I will have quit my job and put college on hold to go to another country to serve and teach people whom I have never met before. Why? Because I know the truth and I will do what ever the Lord asks me to do because I was blessed to know the church is true. If that isn't enough of a reason to put my life on hold what is?

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, not because my parents are. That is first and foremost. I always get that question and I answer it the same. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because i know it to be true. I have read the scriptures and have prayed earnestly for an answer. I do not remember exactly when I decided that I wanted to be Mormon on my own accord. It was a slow progression. Like compare it to a sun rise, you see it coming but its hard to see its progress. Then suddenly I knew it was true. The Book of Mormon is a true record that indeed does testify of my Savior Jesus Christ and it was translated by the Power of God through his prophet Joseph Smith. I know that Christ is the head of this church and Thomas S. Monson is his prophet on the earth today. I'm not sure what really set my testimony in motion but one even has always stuck out in my mind. Back when I was about 9 or 10, I was deathly afraid of storms. I thought every time it thundered and Lightninged that a tornado was coming and I was going to die, and while me and my family were on a church camping trip we were hit by a huge storm. We were in an RV and I was afraid I was gonna die. I woke up in the middle of the night as scared as can be and I remember rolling over and offering a prayer of safety upon me and my family and asking that I would be able to get back asleep. My prayer was answered, I slept for the rest of the night and Me and my family were safe. Might seem small, but from then on I put more and more faith in prayer and later prayed to know if the church was true. I can say that that prayer has also been answered. I do know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Everyone that knows me and has know me for any amount of time knows I am a Mormon. Not because I go around introducing my self by saying, "Hi I'm Matt and I'm a Mormon".( Even though one of my friends introduced me to his mom that way, not kidding!) I just always try to life the standards of the church in my everyday life. I work at a fast food restaurant and people notice how I am not vulgar in my speech and how i don't materialize women. It stands out, I don't announce myself I just do what I am told to do and act how I am supposed to act. That has stood out and I'm sure that you can relate that to someone in your life everyone can.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Christ thought that all men must be baptized in order to go to heaven. Not all people are able to be baptized in their lifetime. God loves them just as much as he does us, thus baptism for the dead enables all men to have the ability to be baptized where it be in life or in death through a proxy. Show more Show less
