Hi I'm Gretchen

Born and raised in Utah, I'm a runner, and a foodie; most importantly, I'm a daughter, sister and friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student currently stressing about what to major in--there are so many choices and i love to learn about anything and everything. I love running, biking, hiking, camping, and anything else that allows me to be outside because i can so strongly feel God's love for me through His amazing creations. I recently completed my first triathalon and am now converted to the sport (well, swimming not so much). I love food--eating it, making it, and sharing it. I love to cook and to bake (which is why it's a good thing i also enjoy running), and Sunday nights in my family consist of everyone meeting at my Grandpa's house to bake and share homemade treats with each other--it's the way we express our love. My family is everything to me. I have an older sister, three younger brothers and a mom and a dad. I feel so blessed to have parents who have taught me to do and be good, and siblings who love me and make me laugh.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints--so it's always been a part of who i am. But now i am a young adult moving through the stage in life when most people are deciding if they will stick with the identity and faith they were raised with, or set out on their own course. I am a Mormon because I have faith in Jesus Christ; i know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches and embraces His true gospel. Not because my parents tell me to believe it, or because i haven't explored other options, but because the Holy Ghost has witnessed the truth to me countless times. When i read the Book of Mormon and asked to know if it was true, a peaceful warmth inside me confirmed it; when i hear the words of Thomas S. Monson and the twelve Apostles, i know what they say is truth, and when i read Joseph Smith's words, "I saw a light exactly over my head...when the light rested upon me i saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all descripton, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other--This is my Beloved Son, Hear Him," i know, through the Holy Ghost, that Joseph really saw God the Father and Jesus Christ. I love Jesus Christ and know He lives. This is His church, and that is why i'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am preparing to serve a full-time mission and will be leaving in April. I am so excited to devote my time and energy into serving Heavenly Father and His children. I want to share with the people of this world how the gospel brings happiness and righteousness brings peace. I know the Savior and His great love and mercy can change lives for the better. While i'm waiting to leave on my mission, i'm currently serving as the ward pianist, ward choir accompianist, and as a member of the activities planning committee for the women of my ward. When it comes down to it, i live my faith by trying to be better today than i was yesterday--by trying my best to be like Jesus Christ, who is unceasingly kind, faithful, obedient and merciful.
