Hi I'm Sydney

I'm a college student from Birmingham, Alabama, I speak Portuguese, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Birmingham, Alabama and I love the Southern hospitaltiy, Southern talk, and Southern food. Before living in Alabama, I lived in Utah, Texas, New Jersey, Ohio, Washington, and Arizona. Moving around has never been easy, but no matter where I go, I know I'll always have two things: my family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It's the same no matter where we go. I've been a Mormon my whole life, and I can't imagine it any other way. I love running, baking, scrapbooking, writing, and playing "Just Dance" on the Wii. I am currently attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I recently returned from serving an 18 month mission in Brazil where I learned Portuguese and taught people about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know where true happiness comes from and I want that peace in my life. I know my Savior, Jesus Christ, lives and that He died for me. He is the only one that truly understands my pains and triumphs. He knows my weaknesses and strengths, and He knows what is best for me. I feel His love through the Spirit when I'm living righteously and keeping His commandments. I know I can pray anytime, anywhere and He is there for me. I am never alone. I know the Book of Mormon is true and that it helps the Bible in testifying of Christ. There is no greater peace than what comes from reading the Book of Mormon. I know it was written for us in our day, and there is no way we can survive in this crazy world without it. Everytime I go to church, study the scriptures, and pray, I learn more and grow closer to my Father in Heaven and His Son. It is only through following Christ that we can become truly happy, and that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example and serving others. Throughout high school, I was asked many questions about Mormons and I was able to share my beliefs and testimony. There are always people who don't agree, but I respect that and I understand. I've realized that you never know who you may impact later in life and the best way to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to live it. My family served in a small congregation in inner-city Birmingham. Through this experience, I learned the true meaning of service and the value in seeing others as children of God. While at BYU, I continue to live my faith by attending church meetings and services, giving talks and lessons, visiting girls in my building, and participating in service projects and activities. I strive to be positive, uplifting, and friendly to everyone because that's what the Savior would do. I sacrificed 18 months to serve a mission for the Lord in Brazil and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I put school on hold, left my family behind, and set out on a journey to share the message of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. As I put my faith in Him, He helped me become the missionary He wanted me to be. I loved talking to people about our Church and how it really does change lives.
