Hi I'm Jake

I'm an architecture geek, Sports Center junky, proud father of 3, husband to an incredible wife, and ... I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Shortly after returning from serving an LDS mission in Bristol, England my soon to be wife asked me what I wanted to do with my life. After an inadequate shrug of my shoulders she suggested, "Have you ever thought about architecture?" Well, that began a several year journey that has included graduate school, practicing at several firms, travel to 3 different continents, and a university teaching career that recently moved our family 1,700 miles across the United States. I am passionate about design, love to sketch, and enjoy experiencing new places and cultures. Over the years our family has grown and we now have 3 wonderful children. We enjoy hiking, exploring, the outdoors, and plenty of goofing around.

Why I am a Mormon

I find comfort in knowing that my Heavenly Father has a plan for me and my family, part of which enables us to be together forever. A few years ago my brother died from cancer - he was 27, a great husband, and father of one with another on the way. It has been rough at times not having him here and I miss our brotherhood and friendship, but I'm comforted in knowing that when this life ends we still live on and that I will see my brother again. Throughout my life I have felt the love of a compassionate Savior. I know he lives. This knowledge has come as I have studied the words of the prophets found in the scriptures, Bible and Book of Mormon, and taken the time to build a relationship with Him through prayer.

How I live my faith

My faith also teaches me to get involved in what I believe in, stand for what is right, and be there for others. As an advocate for a better built environment and member of the American Institute of Architects I've helped orchestrate urban infill design competitions, public outreach activities, and design awareness events - Like I said, I'm a total architecture NERD. Over the years I've also helped out with the Boy Scouts of America, church youth groups, and visiting regularly with members of my church outside of Sunday worship.
