Hi I'm Sydney

I play the organ. I am a missionary. I adore my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a pianist. My grandmother taught me how to play; I can sit at my piano for hours on end and never get sick of it. I have enjoyed playing tennis for the past seven years. I am the youngest in my family, with one older sister whom I look up to very much. I adore my family. The best memories I have are simple moments at the dinner table with them. After I graduated High School, I attended one semester of college studying radiology. Soon after I felt the need to serve a mission for the Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been surrounded by faithful members of the church. However, there comes a time when you have to find out for yourself if the teachings of the gospel are true. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time when I was about 9 years old and did just as Moroni commands at the end: to pray to God the Father and ask if it is true. I received an answer and have an even stronger belief that God loves us and knows us each individually. I continue to pray and ask not only about the Book of Mormon, but other personal questions that, at times, I am troubled with. He answers each one of my prayers. I know that Joseph Smith is a true prophet who saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He restored the gospel to the earth and translated the Book of Mormon. The knowledge of the gospel brings comfort, confidence, and joy. I love living it.

How I live my faith

I am currently a sister missionary in South Carolina. There is nothing better than sharing what I love most with others and seeing them accept the joy the gospel brings. Before my mission I was an organist in my ward. I loved going over to the church and sitting in the chapel all alone playing hymns. Nothing brings comfort more quickly or powerfully.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

We know from the scriptures that even before we came to the earth we had the right to choose, or agency. It says in 2 Nephi 2:26 that we are free "to act for (our)selves and not to be acted upon..." The Lord requires no one to serve a mission. However, it is strongly encoraged for the young men (beginning at age 18) to serve. Young women are also encouraged if they so choose. I am currently a full-time sister missionary serving in South Carolina, and honestly feel that I have benefitted more from serving these people than any of them have benefitted from me. What a privilege it is to dedicate a short 18 months to our Savior. Show more Show less
