Hi I'm Fernando

I grew up in Texas all my life. I have a large extensive family and I love each and everyone of them, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student attending Institute, and I enjoy the outdoors and doing outdoor activities. I love food, music, dancing, being with friends and sports. I didn't know if I wanted to serve a mission, but then I promised to go to be an example for my family. I'm serving in the Oaxaca, Mexico mission and my family who are inactive are interested in coming back.

Why I am a Mormon

Before my parents knew each other, my father was the first to be taught by the missionaries. He came from a small farm town in Mexico, looking for a chance at the american dream. When he got here and started working, he lived with other men that worked with him in an apartment where the missionaries taught him. His co-workers agreed with everything the missionaries said without meaning it, while my father asked questions. He was skeptical at first, but after a couple of years when he met my mother, the missionaries found them again. My mother believed the church to be true, and because of her testimony, my father joined as well. My mother was very active at first when I was a baby, but my family were taken advantage by unworthy people and lost their faith in the church. They never stopped going because they hoped my brother and I will gain a testimony of the church and hopefully go on our mission. Although my brother decided to fall away, I gained a testimony that no matter what has happened in the past, people can change. I've been a member of the church all my life but recently I've began to really appreciate the truthfulness of this church and what it means to me and other people around the world. I hope that by being an example, my family can become active in the church again.

How I live my faith

I live in a fairly small family ward where there aren't many members my age around 18-24. I was called earlier this year around April to teach the 14-15 yr old Sunday school class. I used to teach with two of my best friends until they both left on their missions. I'll be the next one to leave. At first I didn't take this position seriously because I shared 33% of the responsibility. When my friends left, I felt a strong urge to change my habits and to actually teach with conviction and with the spirit. I didn't want to let anyone down by my lack of interest in teaching, especially to Heavenly father. So I made sure I prayed everyday to become a better teacher, better prepared so that my students/ friends would actually be interested in learning more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and reading from the scriptures with true intent. I also went on exchanges with the missionaries once or twice a week to learn more about missionary teaching experiences. I've had many missionary experiences with them, getting to know people I've never seen in my hometown, and how some of them really want to know for themselves if Christ's church is here on Earth once again. Their testimonies to find the truth has inspired me to strengthen my testimony that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church. I have been also called to serve as a missionary in the Oaxaca Mexico mission and I'm excited to bring more people to Christ.
