Hi I'm Niles

I'm a laid back guy who loves to be outdoors and have fun. I am serving the Lord in the Chesapeake Virginia Mission and LOVING IT!

About Me

im pretty much just a go with the flow 25 year old guy. i love food, especially if it tastes good. i love to go fly fishing whenever i can and writing books is a favorite pastime i have. i am looking to become an intereperator and an author. i am learning the piano (teaching myself) and would love for someone who really knows how to help me along. i want to also learn how to play the harp. i love reading and spending time with friends and meeting new people and developing a friendship with them as well. i always try to look for the good in everything because seeing the silver lining makes life a whole lot more valuable and a lot happier and stress free. i grew up as a non-member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. my mother had been exposed to the Church when she was a kid and when the missionaries came to our door when i was 12 we learned a little bit about them and who they were. later when i was 13 i decided to take the discussions that the missionaries taught. i then decided to get baptized along with my younger sister. we have been members for the last 10 years and have loved it. my older brother is not a member. but i hope that someday he will be open to becoming a member.

Why I am a Mormon

i am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints because i was asked a question. i was asked "will you pray about the Book of Mormon and ask God if it truly does contain the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?" when i did, i received an answer that it truly was scripture, that it was given to us in these days so that we can find that guidance that will, day by day, lead us to being able to fulfill our true potential and God's purpose for us here in this life.

How I live my faith

attending church on Sundays is one way that i "live my faith." but more importantly than that is that i am active in my attendance and actively trying to make it a great experience for me and everyone else there. i decided to serve a mission for the church and have been called to serve in the North Carolina Raleigh Mission. i will be on my mission from August 1, 2012 - August 4, 2014. when i meet new people i try to see what they view religion as and if they believe that it is necessary. i try to be the best example that i can to all those whom i meet and associate with. my faith is everything to me. without it i do not know where i would be or if i would even truly be alive. but with it i know that i can do something amazing in this world and become something even more amazing in the life to come.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

the reason that only some members of the church are allowed in the temple is not due to anything secret. we believe that the temple is the house of God here on earth. in 2 chronicles 23:19 we see that anything that is unclean in the eyes of God is not allowed into his house. this is not to be understood that anything or anyone who is unworthy to enter the temple can never do so. but if anyone will do as the Lord commands and repents, and follows the teachings and commandments given by Jesus Christ will become worthy to enter. some members have problems and setbacks in life. even as members of the church we are human, and so, prone to mistakes and imperfection. this just means that we will need to repent and when we become worthy again we will be allowed to enter the temple again. there are a lot of things that are said about "secrets" and such in the temples of the church. this is not the case. the reason that we do not talk about what happens is that the things are sacred. just as you would not tell a person something your spouse told you in confidence, or a doctor or therapist would not divulge any sensitive information about a patient to just anyone, so we hold the things of the temple close to our hearts. we actually encourage everyone to become worthy of entering the temple. this is where we make further covenants with our Heavenly Father. these further covenants enable us to reach our full potential in this life and in the next.
