Hi I'm John

I'm an artist, retired university professor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Minnesota, North Dakota, Vermont and Utah. My parents joined the LDS church when I was young. I received a bachelor's degree in art at the University of Utah and an MFA from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. I was an art professor at Boise State University for 33 years. My art interests include oil painting and wood and bronze sculpture. I also enjoy flying airplanes, large and small. My wife and I have 4 children and 11 grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the LDS church but had to gain my own conviction regarding its truth. I have read and studied all of our scriptures many times. The Holy Ghost has confirmed in my heart and mind the truthfulness of the restored gospel. I am convinced that Joseph Smith was a true prophet who restored Christ's church in the latter days. My family has been richly blessed as we have tried to keep the Lord's commandments.

How I live my faith

I try to be a good neighbor and a friend to everyone I meet. I have served in a number of positions in my local congregation. For several years my wife and I taught a Sunday School class each week to a group of women at a minimum security prison in out neighborhood. We recently served on an 18 month volunteer mission for our church in Nauvoo, Illinois. We gave tours of historic sites in this restored pioneer town, and told about the faith and courage of those who lived there in the 1840's.
